You need an Internet Service Provider and a wireless router and a broadband DSL or cable modem. The DSL or cable modem could have a built-in wireless router, this modem could be included in the broadband plan from the Internet Service Provider.
First, You need organise an Internet Service Provider, they should provide configuration settings, password, and e-mail info etc.
Second, Install the hardware device and wireless LAN drivers. If you have not got these drivers, download them from the IBM/Lenevo WEB site. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP or Vista versions of the drivers that match the Windows version on your laptop.
When you run the driver programs they will unzip and copy into a folder C:\drivers Open eash of the driver folders and install the drivers - usually the SETUP file.

Get back to me if you have further problems, and give me the error messages and what steps you took up to and including the error message.

Is it your LAN cable? Hardware problem? Make sure network drivers are installed and configured. Otherwise, check if you're using a proxy or a program/settings preventing access to the internet.

No sound from computer

Connect to the Internet.
Click Start
Click Control Panel
Click System
Click Hardware
Click Device Manager
Look for any "unknown devices", or devices with a YELLOW question-mark.
Double-click that device, and click "reinstall driver".
Click 'yes' to "may I access the Internet to search for a driver".
Windows should install a suitable device-driver.

Or, try http://WindowsUpdate.Microsoft.com and do a "custom" scan.
On the left, click the "Optional Hardware", to see if Windows Update has a device-driver that it wants to install. Click to install that device-driver.

Hii have just reinstalled my laptop with the vista operating system and i cant seem to connect to the internet

Did you reinstall from the manufacturer-supplied "System Restore" set of CD/DVD disks, or did you install from a "generic" Microsoft Windows Vista DVD? If the former, then the correct device-drivers for the manufacturer-specific hardware should have been automatically installed; if the latter, you'll need to access the manufacturer's "support & downloads" web-site, using a computer that does have Internet access (and either a USB memory-stick or a CD-writer), and download the correct device-driver, copy it to the memory-stick or to CD-R or CD-RW media, and then install the device-driver, by reading the software from the memory-stick or the CD-disk.

I have a webcam attached to my computer and would like to be able to access it over the internet. preferably without software, i think i can do it by tweaking the settings on my router?

You simply need a webcam program, this sets up a "Web Server" and you can access this from a remote location. have a look at the website below, it has freeware webcam programs, read the manual and install, or vice versa.

You might have a Driver issue.

Usually, a driver update isused as a solution to an issue with how Windows works with a piece of hardware.

Updating a driver can also enable new or updated features for the hardware.

To access Device Manager, use any of the following methods:
  • Click Start, click Run, and then type devmgmt.msc.
  • Right-click My Computer, click Manage, and then click Device Manager.
  • Right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
  • Type the following command at a command prompt:start devmgmt.msc

You can use Device Manager to change the way your hardware isconfigured, and to change the way your hardware interacts with yourcomputer's programs. With Device Manager, you can update device driversfor hardware installed on your computer, modify hardware settings, andtroubleshoot problems.

Device Manager enables you to:
  • Determine if the hardware on your computer is working properly.
  • Change hardware configuration settings.
  • Identify the device drivers that are loaded for each device and obtain information about each device driver.
  • Change advanced settings and properties for devices.
  • Install updated device drivers2_bing.gif.
  • Disable, enable, and uninstall devices.
  • Reinstall the previous version of a driver.
  • Identify device conflicts and manually configure resource settings.
  • Print a summary of the devices that are installed on your computer.
If the device is experiencing a problem, the type of problem isdisplayed. You might also see a problem code and number and a suggestedsolution. If you call a support line, this number can be useful fordetermining and diagnosing the problem.

How to install a new driver from Device Manager loadTOCNode(2, 'summary');
  1. Double-click the type of device you want to update or change.
  2. Right-click the specific device driver you want to update or change.
  3. Click Update Driver to open the Hardware Update Wizard. Follow the wizard instructions.

Rolling back to a previous version of a driver loadTOCNode(2, 'summary'); Use this feature if you encounter problems after you install a driver, such as error messages when you access the device, faulty behavior ofthe device, or even the inability to start Windows.

Windows XP2_bing.gif provides this roll back to a previous, working, device driver:
  1. Right-click the device for which the previous version of the driver is desired and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Drivers tab.
  3. Click Roll Back Driver.
