Could also be the bulb... some LCD Desktop bulbs can be replaced with as little as $10.00 (us) and a little bit of soldering

Sound like you have a bad power inverter inside the monitor. These can usually be replaced on laptop screens, but I have never seen the parts to do it on a desktop LCD screen ( eBay might be a good shot), but your best bet would be to send it to the manufacturer for repair.
