How do I troubleshoot the water feature on the freezer?

If the light you are talking about is the freezer light, along with the ice maker and and water dispenser, I would guess you have a bad freezer door switch. That switch works the light but is also an interlock switch that keeps the dispenser features from working when the door is opened. Either the switch is bad or a wiring problem going to the switch.

That is caused by a defective water control valve on the ice maker side of your water control valve. The only way to repair is replace water valve. Please rate this solution, Thank You, Sea Breeze

There are several things that can prevent and icemaker from working.
1- Temp in freezer. If the temp in the freezer is higher than 6 degrees the ice makers thermistat will not call for water.
2- Water inlet valve. If the inlet valve is malfunctioning the silinoid may not be opening. Even if you are getting water through the door.
3- Faulty ice maker. If the internal components of the ice maker are no longer functioning it wont make ice.

To test the inlet valve. In the back of the fridge is and access panel near the bottom remove this panel and look at the inlet valve. now you should see 3 hoses. One is usually copper and runs directly from the house water supply. There will be two other hoses from the inlet. One leads into the fridge for the water in door feature. The other is for the icemaker. Switch the two hoses from the ice maker ( water in door and icemaker) than push the water in door feature and see if the water goes into icemaker. If it does not than replace inlet. If does and temp in freezer is below 6 degrees replace icemaker.

Do you have an ice maker feature. If so check the water line to the back of the refrigerator. It may be leaking.

Frozen drain
Ice maker water line and wiring
harness openings not sealed.
Seal water line and wiring harness
openings.
Drain trough not properly formed.
Ensure drain trough is at 90° angle to
back of freezer and that lip is up on front
and ends.
Divider (foam block) frozen.
Replace divider. Check drain trough.

I just had this same problem and finally figured it out. The water in the line was frozen because my freezer was turned to 6 (note on inside of freezer says recommended temp is 4) so I turned the freezer to 4 and the refrigerator to 3. Next day the water was flowing.
