What kind of connections do you have on the laptop? Do you have a USB port? Any external modem should work if you have the drivers installed on the laptop.

How to connect my dell dial up modum to lap top

Your dial up modem needs to be ab external modem.
You can not use an internal modem from another machine unless you create a network and share your connection.
If you have an external modem then connect the modem to the available port on your laptop and let plug and play take over. If you do not have a port on your laptop and you modem has a serial port you will need a usb to serial adapter which you can get at Radio Shack.

Window7 installation

1) you have to make sure that you have ALL the required Windows 7 drivers for your Laptop AND additional devices/application (eg. Wifi adapter, Modems, USB DTV, External Keyboard, etc). 2) get and install a 'Windows 7 UPGRADE' for your current Operating system. (Check for free upgrade?) 3) Windows XP mode (and native Virtual PC) is only available if you upgrade to the Professional or Ultimate versions AND your CPU and BIOS support 'Hardware Virtualization' ... even my Intel Dual Core T4200 processor does not support this feature!!!
Hope it helps: let me know how you go!

My acer laptop is not getting a dial tone but the phone line is good. If the modem is bad, where is it located on the laptop?

Hello flubber20054,

The modem settings can be accessed through the windows control panel as follows:

•Opening the Control Panel
The Windows Control Panel can be opened by:
Selecting *Start > Control Panel (on Windows Vista)
- OR -
Start > Run > Type 'Control' and select OK (on Windows XP)

In the Control Panel, do the following:
•Select Phone and Modem Options (Brings up the phone and modems properties sheet)
•Click on the 'Modems' tab
•Highlight the modem's name
•Click the properties button
•Look for the words 'Device Status' on that page.
If the message box says 'This device is working properly' then the modem is working ok. The Phone and Modem Options also has a tab called 'Dialing Rules'. The dial tone might work if you 'Edit' the existing Dialing Rule or Create a 'New' Rule. When you 'Edit' or create a 'New' rule, enter the requested information as best you can. You can always go back and 'Edit' the rule to keep testing it. I hope this gives you some ideas for resolving the dial tone problem.

Have a great day,

HP pavilion dv5-1125nr notebook, dial up modem is not working

Save yourself alot of grief. Purchase a PCMIA or USB modem and your done. A very inexpensive fix. I am a certified HP Master tech and I will tell you that HP does have some consistent problems withg their modems. If you can spare a few bucks go to and try to locate an updated driver.

My samsung till won't talk to my lap top

Windows Vista is the last operating system that you would want to use for legacy hardware -legacy being anything that requires a usb to rs 232c adaptor. Scripts required to make this work would drive you to an abacus. If you need to have a cash register input on a permanent basis I would recommend another operating system, even a real old computer would be easier to interface or you could use the modem output of the Samsung to connect to your laptop in a LAN configuration maybe even with a null modem connection. Vista will drive you crazy with permission denials with cries of cyber-sodomy with an analog interface directly connected. The Samsung 755 has a USB interface but since you don't have the correct input for your laptop it will be far easier to use the cash register an an old (cheap) computer with an RS 232 interface and connect it to your laptop with a wired or wireless LAN configuration. Those USB to DB9 0r DB25 or PS2 adaptors still cannot match the speed parameters that the laptop US Host controller would ever find acceptable. Windows XP or 2000 might be a consideration but Vista is already neurotic enough without interfaces it was not designed to accomodate. I hope this will save you from alot of frustration. respectfully, Steve Medley

Regarding driver

You are not alone. Most people that are using Vista can't get wireless drivers or dial up drivers to work even when they are marked as Vista compatible. If your notebook has a serial port I would recommend buying an external modem. Usually weather or not you have Vista XP or Linux an external modem will work that is hooked up via a serial connection but if the vendors of your laptop were too cheap to put in a serial port your out of luck unless you can find a PCMCIA or PCI Express card that has dial up and a vista driver. You need to know if you have PCI or PCMCIA. Now if this is a new laptop I would suggest you take it back to wherever you got it and contact and have them give you a laptop that has the ability to connect to dial up.

Secondly Dial Up won't work with Vista correctly because Vista is full of DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) and Trusted Computing technology that use to be codenamed "Project Longhorn" back in 2002. This requires Vista to send and recieve information from Micro$oft at all times to make sure your not pirating music, using non registered Micro$oft software, or using a dial up modem that does not support DRM drivers lol :) . It says this in the Vista EULA. Now the above company Computer Rescue does not sell any Vista Computers. They only sell XP and Linux computers. I'm sure you would appreciate that a lot more.
