Question about Nakamichi Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I purchased a Nakamichi 480 tape deck from a seller on eBay. All the push buttons work OK except for the EJECT button. It will not allow the compartment to open where you insert a tape. The eBay seller has offered to take the unit back. However, if there is an easy way to fix the EJECT button, that would be the best option. Many thanks!

    Hello Robotek,

Many, many thanks for taking time to respond to my problem!! However, there is NO cassette tape in the tape deck.

This unit was shipped to me (very well packaged). However, it appears to me that the EJECT button is possibly broken or jammed. The EJECT button barely sticks out from the front of the tape deck panel.

I purchased this tape deck because it is identical to my Nakamichi 480 tape deck. Should I try to open my old tape deck and see how the EJECT button is connected.

If the EJECT button on the tape deck that I purchased is broken, do you know whether or not I could take the one from my tape deck and install it in this tape deck?

I know that I have not explained this very well. But I hope it is clear enough for you to understand my problem.

    Again many thanks,
    Sam

P.S. The reason I purchased this "new" Nakamichi 480 tape deck was because the PLAY button does not work. It will fast forward and rewind OK, put it will not play or record a tape. Perhaps it would be easier to repair mine??

Hi there
It is probable that the head assembly or pinch roller assemblies are not returning to their correct rest position. The arms that carry the pinch roller assemblies develop dried grease problems in the bearing/post they are mounted to that prevent their timely return and fouling the casette shell preventing eject. Check them by seeing if they are clearing the cassette shell, and are "sprung into the home position with out binding.
I have repaired scores of these decks over the years, and am happy to talk to you more about the problem. Thanks for using FixYa.
regards robotek

Hi Sam, still happy to assist. Have you been able to remove the lid of either decks and check the condition of the capstan belt? The fact you have 2 decks to work with means that repairs may well be possible to get at least one going again. . I have only ever seen a broken eject button from when someone has forced the door latch whilst attempting to dismantle the deck. There is a spring internal connected to the latching assembly that may have been removed or not sorrectly seated. I would start by checking there. Never seen an eject button mechanism break in normal operation with a 480. Happy to assist you, just need a rating and responce from you to indicate to me that I am not wasting my time :) Cheers

    regards
    Graeme

Pioneer CT-W208r won't eject tape.

These dual cassette decks were throw away units in most cases. The belt inside and the grease in the cam mechanism is in bad shape and the deck can not cycle through the steps it need to so as to reach stop. Only stop mode will allow the door block to release. The tape can safely be extracted by a Technician. The deck need work. Dual cassette decks are not always worn the repair cost.

Sony TC-WR690 doors will not open to remove the cassette.

If you remove the cover after unplugging the AC, you will see that when you push the eject button that on the back side the putton is held back by a white plastic piece. Push down the white plastic piece as you press the eject button. The door will open and the tape will release. I jsut did this today on my Sony TC WR 670 dual tape player. Both sides were blocked. I noticed that both fuses on the board were also blown. New fuses didn't solve the problem. May be that the transformer is out?

How do I dub casette to casette? I lost the manual.

There should be a DUB button. After you push the DUB button, you will have another button that will allow you to select Dub form 1-2 or 2-1. If not there will only be one deck that will play while the other records and plays. Put the tape to be coppied in the play deck and the blank tape in the record deck push record and it should work.

Tape deck is stuck

push the eject button at the same time get a nail file and insert it in the tape slot
on the right hand side of the deck
it may take three hands one to push eject one to push the eject mechanism inside the radio behind the tape
and one to help remove the tape
if that doesnt work....dont try forcing anything as the stereo WILL break..... take the stereo out of the car, so it is not connected to the electrics, then either, gently take it apart with a screwdriver

I would suspect the belts, look for any small motors and missing belts. You may be able to manualy turn a wheel or gear till it ejects.
if your not comfortable doing this urself with the above said porcedures... its better to take it to the dealer...

Can't eject tape from deck

On Sony DSR-80P error 02-221 and 02-291 is a problem with the tape pull-in or eject. Mostly the tape stickers are bad situated over the stripe-cover at the top, which should be moving freely!
Remove the stickers from the tape or put them lower on the case. If the tape is already inside the machine is unable to reject the tape - disconnect the machine from electricity to open it or call service...

greetings from berlin, matt.

it has probably thrown the capstan belt and will require a new belt fitted. the transport relies on capstan rotation to engage play. a separate reel motor operates ff/rew and takeup funtions
