I have a Poulan ,possibly a P3314, hard to pull starter rope, removed plug pulls fine, replaced plug turned off switch and removed plug wire and also disconnected fuel line, same problem, I made sure there was no fuel in the system since there are no reed valves that is not the problem. do you have any ideas?

Been there, but not 100% sure why. If machine also has self propel wheel drive then try turning the motor over by pushing mower at same time as pulling starter rope or disengaging self propel by releasing handle quickly a couple times.

SOURCE: saw does not idle

You have gum in your carbeurator.
You can try a carb. cleaner that you add to the gas. I likve one called seafoam. You add one ounce per gallon of fuel.

Also, you must have a good clean spark plug, and a clean air filter. The spark, the fuel, and the air all contribute to an easy start and a good idle. If you havn't changed the spark plug lately do so, same with the air filter.

SOURCE: poulan model p3314 recoil spring won't go in correctly

You need to pretension it. Remove the pull handle, rotate the spool about 2 revolutions against the spring, rethread the cord and reinstall the handle.

SOURCE: My Poulan P3314 primer won't take in fuel or push it out.

the vinyl primer button on your carb shoots fuel into the crankshaft space. when you pull the rewind air and fuel in the crankshaft area is sucked into the combustion chamber. when the magneto reaches almost top dead center, the high voltage fires the spark plug. if there is an air leak in the gasket that surrounds the crankshaft, the air/fuel mixture will be way off. flooding will occur and the plug will get saturated. remove the whole back of your engine and clean the mating surfaces. now use high temp permatex and run a bead all around the gasket surface. tighten all the bolts - screws. push the primer button twice and try starting the engine.

Poulan p3314 hard to pull and jerky

There could be a few reasons why your Poulan p3314 is hard to pull and jerky. The most common reason is that the spark plug is dirty or fouled.

This can happen if the engine is left to sit for a long period of time, or if it isn't used very often. Another possibility is that the air filter is dirty and needs to be replaced.

Pull cord binding when mounted on engine but not when removed from engine

When you assemble the Recoil Starter, push it down onto the blower easily and then pull the cord slowly. It should drop into position as you slowly pull the cord.

How do I replace starter rope on a poulan 445 pole saw?

I have pulled out the spark plug and stuffed some rope into the cylinder. The piston will then not be able to travel the full distance and will keep the clutch from turning. Use rope that will not shed particles. This will let you remove the clutch bell.

Very difficult to pull starter rope why??

This could be a lot of things. IF the fuel mixture is not right then the wear on the engine is excessive. Take the spark plug out and see if it is easier to pull. IF it is then the compression is too high and this could be from timing. If neither or those work, the clutch might be bad.

I have a wild thing. the rope pull starter is very hard to pull. when i take the spark plug out it is easy to pull. the saw was not used for about 4 years until yesterday. it ran for about 45 minutes fine....

one piston ring has expanded now having no or a very fine gap increasing the compression ratio causing this to happen. When the spark plug is removed it is very easy to pull on the cord in any means. A inspection is due of this engine or a new chain saw is needed

Crank rope extreemly hard to pull.

Take the spark plug out to see if there is fuel in the cylinder...drain it out if there is lubricant in the cylinder.....pull the rope a few times and then go back to normal start procedures.

How do i replace i pull cord on Poulan 031 Pro ?

Remove the tube that holds the flex-drive shaft from the front of the motor cover.Remove the rear engine cover. Remove the throttle cable from the carburetor. Mark and unplug any wires for the on/off switch that go to the ignition coil (underneath front cover) if possible. Now if you have pulled the driveshaft tube out of the way, the clutch drum is up next. Inside it, screwed into the very end of the engine's crankshaft is a Torx #25 screw. Before you loosen it, you will have to lock up the engine. To do so, remove the spark plug. Pull on the starter until the piston is down, then insert a length of clean, soft rope into the engine. The engine will come up and compress the rope, thus locking it in place to allow clutch drum and clutch removal. Loosen the T-25 screw inside the drum.. It probably won't come completely out...it is made this way. Next, remove the clutch. It is screwed onto a small threaded section of the crankshaft Removal is counterclockwise.. It will be pretty tight. To help, apply peneterating oil. Whack the ears of the clutch near the center with a dull flat-blade chisel and hammer unless there are bolts. then use wrench. It will turn counterclockwise for removal and there will probably be a removal direction arrow on it's face. After getting that off, remove the Torx screws holding the cover to the engine. The starter unit should be mounted inside as it mates with the bottom of the flywheel to start the motor. Remember to preload tension (5-7 turns) on the starter unit. Make sure the handle is installed. Jam the unit with a screwdriver or something so you can insert and tie off the new rope. Then remove jam device and let recoil pull your new rope into place. Reassemble and you are done. Disassembly requires Torx head drivers ranging from T-15 to T-25
