Question about Whirlpool WED5800S Electric Dryer

1 Answer

I have a venting question for a new Whirlpool 9550 steam dryer

I'm buying a new Whirlpool 9550 steam dryer, but do not know what venting to get. My wall vent and dryer will not line up. If I right vent, I will only have 1 to 2 inches from the right side of the dryer to the left edge of the vent hole. If I back vent, I will be any where from 6" to 22" off on the alignment. Will the left vent work best or the back vent, or should I purchase a 10" pedestal and bottom vent? I want to have my dryer as close to the wall as possible and not have wasted space between the wall and the dryer.

Thanks Eric. Sounds like we may have some work to do. I was hoping the side vent would work, but it sounds like it won't.

The vent must remain the same diameter all the way out. Previously installed vents do not often line up well. To get the dryer closest to the wall the bottom method sounds like the best shot. I would build a frame from 2x6s so you can design it exactly to your purpose. A purchased pedestal will still have some limitations.

My Whirlpool Duet DRYER--the clothes are wetter than when I put them in & there is now water sitting in the bottom. It does have a steam setting, but I'm not using that one. It's 4 years old.

Check your exhaust vent! If you have an obstruction, the steamy air will have no where to go, then your air-conditioning temps inside can cause the water to condense in the vent tube... Even if the vent is just open to the hot summer air and the clothes sit in the machine the difference in temps between inside and outside can cause these symptoms...

Why is my Whirlpool cabrio platinum dryer leaking water, and taking over an hour to dry clothes?

Is this an older dryer? Long drying times are often caused by lack of good heating or poor air movement through the drum. Air movement depends on a properly turning fan and a clear exit of hot moist air to the outside vent. Check and see if you get a strong blast of air from your outside vent. If you don't, you may have a fan problem, plugged vent, or kinked vent tube. The water leaking could be because you don't have any drying going on due to the aforementioned problems.

My gas dryer has no heat

long dry times are a venting problem. if no heat at all it could be your ignitor, a thermal fuse, or the secondary gas coils, all are replaceable and reasanoblyy cheap between 30-90 dollars usually so its up to u it u want to repair it.. if long dry times i would unplug the venting from the rear and dry a load if it heats faster than u know ur venting is clogged and u might wanna clean ur ducting and replace that venting tube. also u can go outside while running and see or feel if air is being pushed out while its running hope this helps let me know how it goes

My Whirlpool electric steam dryer accumulates an unusual amount of water in the exhaust vent (to the degree that it overflows the hose). Suggestions?

That can happen when the vent hose is clogged. Usually a birds nest or just an accumulation of lint out the outlet point.

Dryer wont start - no lights

Dryer door does not think it is closed. There is a sensor on the top of the door that is probably not making contact with the door. Trying pushing the top part of the door and holding it then press the start button.. if the unit starts running then you know what it is. I just had one of these dryers delivered today and had to find out about this by myself tonight!!

Dryer not drying clothes

Make sure that the flex hose going out from the dryer is not blocked. You should check it from both the back of the dryer and all the way to wear it vents outside. It could also be the thermostat, which is cheaper to replace than buying a new dryer.

Steam comes out of dryer after cycle and door is opened

Probably has a restricted vent. Go outside with dryer running and check air coming out vent. Should be a good blast...not just a breath. Clean out the vent and make sure it's not kinked. If it vinyl or foil vent, replace it! Also make sure lint screen is cleaned everytime.
