A/C not working, outside fan not turning without assistance

Inside unit turns on, you can hear the power coming into the relay or whatever on the outside unit. The fan doesnt turn, you can manually give the fan a jumpstart and it starts to work however no cold air is blowing.

I have another AC system sitting right beside it and they look to be spinning about the same rate once you jump start it. The motor on top feels rediculously hot, dont know if that is from the power sitting there on a bad motor waiting to kick over. Once the motor is turning is there anything else that could prevent the AC from working properly.

Is fan spinning fast enough it has to have alot of velocity to cool condensor coils if you haft to push fan to get going its probably shot and get new motor the ac is a sealed system and hardly ever will leak freon!!!Best of Luck to You!!! :)

Some units have a split capacitor, a capacitor with two values and serves the compressor and the fan motor. I would inspect the wiring and especialy the capacitor. If the capacitor has leaked fluid, replace it. If it all looks normal, take the capacitor to get it tested. You can replace the split capacitor with two capacitors with slight wiring modification. Without the capacitor, a motor does not know which way to rotate and just sits there until a draft of push sends it rotating.

The condensor fan motor is failing due to lack of lubrication of its bearings or due to worn out bearings. The compressor has probably shut off on a high pressure safety switch inside the condensing unit and is no longer running due to the lack of airflow across the condensor....No compressor equals no cooling. Another thing could be only a bad capacitor on the condensor fan motor. A failed capacitor will also cause the motor to act as you describe.

There are a number of other things that could cause no cooling, but the first thing to address is probably replacing the condensor fan motor then move on to the other issues.

A non programmable digital cheap thermostat indicates low battery. replace with new battery. still not cooling. is there a reset when replacing the batterly. can a low battery cause the system to stop...

No, The only thing you may loose replacing the thermostat battery's would be the time/date. All default pre-programming will not be lost. The thermostat controls the unit. If the unit is coming on then the t-stat is working. Confirm the unit is coming on when the T-stat tells it to.Turn the t-stat to the off position, have someone go outside to the condenser unit. Turn the unit on and listen for the fan and the compressor (2) different sounds from the unit. Feel the lines that connect to the house, the larger line should feel cool to cold and the smaller line should feel warm to hot. If you do not hear the compressor, or suspect it is not coming on with the fan, then you may have some other issue. In the heat we have been having one good suspect is a bad compressor start capacitor. The fan comes on but not the compressor,,this is a good indication the cap. is bad.. On the wall by your outside unit is a power disconnect. Open the box and pull the disconnect or flip the breaker to the off position. Now have someone turn the T-stat on and wait a minute then off and wait a minute, on and off ... you should hear a relay clicking on/off or in/out inside the control box of the A/C unit. When in the on position you should hear a slight buzzing sound also once the relay pulls in, this will tell you the t-stat is telling the unit what it should be doing. If all this is good then your unit is just is not cooling right and needs further troubleshooting. Hope this helps FixYa up.

Is the furnace fan (indoor fan ) running. If not the problem is with the inside unit. It supplies the control power to operate the entire system and has a control fuse on the circuit board. If it is running but not the outside unit then the problem is outside.

Need info. on a Tempstar Comfort 2000 unit.

This is a 2 speed condenser fan control board, the tempstar part number is
1086071, if you google tempstar 1086071 you will receive 1 listing for the part for something like 44 bucks, but if you go to sears parts direct and enter the part number they have a factory authorized substitute part number 1088977 that you can order from them for $17.49, some tempstar units were shipped without this control unit and the 2 speed fan just runs off the contactor on high speed only to do that disconnect the control unit and connect the black and orange wires that ran from contactor to the control unit previously together, and then the fan should come on in high speed when the condenser is on. there is a kit that they shipped these control units http://icpindexing.mqgroup.com/documents/086477/48201222001.pdf, (just for you to look at) so all you really need to do is get the new part from sears or run the motor in high and get rid of the part all together, hope this helps.

Outside unit come on for ac but inside won't come on for ac or heat

Turn Tsat to fan to see if inside unit will come on. If it does Tstat needs replaced. If not it is fan motor or fan relay. Possible cap. Do you here the fan relay come in. If it is a Good man unit it is time delay and you wont here it. Need to know your make of unit. Rusty

Lennox A/c unit outside is working but not the fan inside

check the 24 v relay that controls the evaporator fan motor, it could be defective or the fan motor itself. could be stuck or has a bad capacitor.

I have a colman ac unit and the outside unit will not come on. i hear it clicking but nothing happens

On my computer screen these two problems are not the same.

To "garys2003" Clicking you hear is the contactor closing in calling for cooling. If no power is being supplied to the outside unit high voltage the unit will not run. Check your circuit breaker or fuses in the outside power box. If the outside power box is of the non-fused disconnect, check that the disconnect is inserted properly.

To Trenina: Is your unit a self contained unit outside ducted to the inside as with a Mobile Home. If so your evaporator cooling coil may be frozen over stopping air movement, turn the cooling off and set your fan to on until it defrosts, then return to normal operation and leave the fan on during cooling.

If nothing comes on inside as with a central A/C system you may have a problem with the blower motor itself.

A/C quit running

This question is really to broad to answer. There are several things that could cause it to stop running. I think I would turn everything off, let it cool down for several hours and try it again. When you kick it back on, take note of what is running and what's not running. Inside fan, outside fan, compressor. If the outside unit will not run at all it could be as simple as a grasshopper caught in the contacts. If you hear the compressor running outside but no outside fan, The fan motor probably needs replaced. Please make sure that all power to the unit is TURNED OFF before removing cover plates on outside unit and before trying to remove insects from contact points. Check all wiring inside outside unit while it is open. Also check capacitors for swelling or leaking. If you don't know how to turn all the power off or open the outside unit, you need to call a professional AC technician. Hope this helps. kstfas
