Question about Gateway Belkin 54g Wireless DSL/Cable Router (DHF5D72304)

1 Answer

Login/logout - password request goes to status page only

I have a Belkin 54g. The problem I have is my wireless connection works but is in unsecure mode. When I access via Web interface and click security it takes me to the pasword login page, (I have rest the factory default numerous times so assume it is now blank - no password) after clicking submitt with blank password the Status page comes up. This happens every time I want to change anything or anytime a password login page comes up. In other words, I can not change anything which requires password as after clicking submitt, it goes to the Status page. All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the quic reply, the problem has been rectified by using another Laptop that I connected to the router wirelessly and you maybe right as that seems to be the only thing that I had not looked at on the problem PC - meaning clearing the cache. I shall do that and see if that lets me see the correct pages. Infact the setting on the browser was to never check for Newer versions of the web pages, changing that to check every visit has solved the problem. Thanks again for your quick reply.

Hi, You said that you cannot change anything on the router setup page, right? Have you tried to clear your browser's cache or used other browser or other PC to isolate the problem? There's a possibility that you are just seeing the cache of the router's interface and that's maybe the reason why everytime you change something it just goes back on the status page.

1. Log into your Wireless Router or Access Point.
Open your web browser and type in the IP address of the Wireless
Router or Access Point. (The Router’s default is 192.168.2.1, the
Access Point’s default is 192.168.2.254.) Log into your Router by
clicking on the “Login” button in the top, right-hand corner of the
screen. You will be asked to enter your password. If you never set
a password, leave the password field blank and click “Submit”.
Click the “Wireless” tab on the left of your screen. Select
the “Encryption” or “Security” tab to get to the security
settings page.
2. Select “128-bit WEP” from the drop-down menu.
3. After selecting your WEP encryption mode, you can type in
your hex WEP key manually, or you can type in a passphrase
in the “Passphrase” field and click “Generate” to create a WEP
key from the passphrase. Click “Apply Changes” to finish. You
must now set all of your clients to match these settings. A hex
(hexadecimal) key is a combination of numbers and letters from
A—F and 0—9. For 128-bit WEP, you need to enter 26 hex keys.
For example:
C3 03 0F AF 4B B2 C3 D4 4B C3 D4 E7 E4 = 128-bit key
4. Click “Apply Changes” to finish. Encryption in the Wireless
Router is now set. Each of your computers on your wireless
network will now need to be configured with the same
security settings.

It wont connet to my belkin wireless router

Hi...to find the password, or network key:

1) Login to your router.

To do this, open a web browser on a computer, as if about to view a web page: then type the router address, http://192.168.2.1 in the address bar.

2) You should see a prompt asking for a password. Just click 'submit' button if none has been set: otherwise, enter the correct router login password.

3) You should see the router user interface. In the left hand menu, under Wireless, click Security.

The 'Pre-Shared Key' or PSK you see there is the network key (password) you need.

Please come back to Fixya if this doesn't work or if you need help with any of it. Good luck

Router problem

Hi there,

Connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the Belkin wireless router. DO NOT use a wireless connection, use a cable.

Open your web browser and type the IP address of the router (by default, the address is http://192.168.2.1.) in the address bar and press Enter.

Click Login on the top of the page to login to the router. By default the Password is left blank, click Submit.
Click Security under Wireless menu.
Under Security, Select 64 bit WEP (or 128 bit WEP).
Select Key 1 and enter any 10 hexadecimal digits - any combination of 0-9, A-F (26 digits if you selected 128-bit as the encryption strength). You may also enter a pass phrase and have the router generate a key for you. Example (0102030405060708090a0b0c)
Apply the settings.
Please write down the key – You will need it later to configure your and your neighbors wireless computers with the same key.
Remember to set an admin password before you close down, other vice anyone can access you router and change the setup and admin password.

/regards
Teis

Cannot connect my Mac Pro to the internet via my Belkin wireless

With the router powered on, use a small thin object to press and hold the reset button for exactly seven seconds. The router lights will flash and this will restore the router to factory default. Connect your computer to one of the routers lan ports with an etherent cable. Open your web browser and navigate to 192.168.2.1. This should show the router status page with the default settings.

This will make the router unsecured again, so be sure to go back into setup and reset your Wireless security. I suggest using WEP authentication, and using a 10 digit ph # for your key (that way its easy to remember).
