OMG!! That was it! I got a flat screw driver, saw the little holes that the manufacture filled with a hard plastic to fuse it together, used a hammer and punched the holes to remove the hardend melted plastic. Walah! The assembly went flying though hope I can put it back together.

OMG!! That was it. After looking more closely I saw there was a white melted plastic covering where the 4 holes said it would be.. around the area where the nut would go. I got a hammer and flat screw driver and punched out the holes to remove the plastic that was fusing it together. I big pull and walah! It flew apart. Now I hope I can get it back together. Thank you! I called a tech earlier to detach the 2 pieces and said he would charge me $75 to take it apart. Thanks again.

Hi, There is a 7/16" bolt that hold the agitator in. Remove the top cap on the agitator and the cap inside it to get to the bolt. Once you get the bolt out, pull the agitator out and seperate the two pieces.
I hope this help you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Sometimes you need to use a flat blade screw driver and punch the 4 tabs around the bolt hole so they will release the two pieces.

What's the cause of my washer's agitation and noise problem?

Possibly a bad basket drive. Or something is wrapped around the shaft under the tub or something is in the pump.

The machine will not agitate, but will spin dry and drain. Kenmore model 110.

When the agaitator doesn't work yet it spins/drains it is usually the agitator dogs that are worn out.
This tip i wrote about the dogs expalins in detail what to check and how to replace the dogs.

Agitator will move while empty, but when you put a load of clothes in it will not move...

Sounds like the (agitating dogs) are worn out. These are little arms with grippers at the end that grab the agitator . It spins free one way but the grippers grab the base of the agitator and spins it the other way. This is how you get the agitating motion. You can buy these at a repair shop for about $5. The cap at the top of the agitator will need to be taken off, just unscrew it. once it'a off you can see at the bottom a bolt that will need to be removed, once it is removed you can the pull the whole assembly out. The agitating dogs will be at the base of the shaft. These are made of a plastic/resin and wear out due to being old or overloading. There are diagrams on the net to show you exactly what they look like, search (agitating dogs.

The agitator seems to be stripped out - I need info on how to disassemble the agitator

Te newest ones are the easiest, a square hole can be unscrewed after removing the splash guard and belch Older models have a nut to remove. You must use an extension and socket for that. I have a nice video i found online: HERE
After I get the agitator out I set it on the floor and hold it down with my feet, I grab the top and yank it apart. I remove the old worn out agitation dogs and replace them with part number 80040 around $5 here. Line it all up and snap it back together without breaking the plastic locking tabs on the base of the agitator. While putting back the agitator take care not to make it come apart. This sounds hard but it is not. Anyone can do it.

I have an LSR7233EZ0 and the Agitator slips when you run heavy loads in the machine. Where is the best place to start clutch or gears?

"Where is the best place to start clutch or gears?" Answer= Neither.

What you have is a failed set of agitator dogs. Don't ask me why they call them dogs. I really don't know. Maybe it's because they "clamp" on to a relatively flat surface and the friction of the grip provides the "cam" action... kinda like "plate dogs" in iron work. But I'm speculating.)

Easy and cheap repair. The part number you'll need is 80040 (<--- plug that number into a search engine or call your local appliance parts place). What you'll need is a 7/16"socket, an 8" extension, a ratchet, and (possibly) an 8' pair of needle-nose pliers.

Pull the top off of the agitator. If yours has the "flat top", just pry it off with a knife. Then you'll see a mostly opaque cap down there... remove that (<--- just pull it out). Now use your socket and ratchet and extension and remove the bolt that's exposed down there.

Now lift the agitator up and out of the basket. Place the agitator on the ground and put your feet on the wide part, the base. Then lift up on the "screw"/agitator ... this will separate the two sections. Now pull the cam out and you'll see the dogs (<---the ones that need replacing). Remove them and install the new ones. There ya go!

All that's left now is to rebuild it in the reverse order and you're done.

If you have any questions, just write. If this solved your problem then show some FixYa love and rate it as Fixed!

Agitator and base won't separate.

I had the same problem yesterday, the tech online said that if you look closely there are 4 little thin rectangle holes... it may not look like holes since the manufacture fuses it with hard melted plastic to keep you from yanking it off. I used a flat edge screwdriver and pounded it in with a hammer (like using a chisel). Punch th 4 holes so the plastic seperates from the dog assembly. Place on floor, stand on it and pull straight up!
