Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have this ice maker and after 6 months I had to call for a repairman and they fixed it and then came back and told me to shut it down and not to eat any of the ice because it was contaminated but they won't tell me with what. Please tell me if any one has had any problems similar to these.

Whenever the icemaker is worked on, the water in the tube feeding the icemaker has the potential of picking up a little rust or other debris from the fittings that are opened up.
To fully put your mind at east just toss out the first two batches of ice, tand the first six cups of water to assure that both your ice and your water are clean and fresh.

Ice maker problems are almost always a problem. Sometimes I will locate an issue and fix it and then it will work for a short period and then break again. So, now I just replace the ice maker as a general rule. This is much more likely for success. However, the replacement ice maker is often not an exact match. And again, the this and the that sometimes causes problems. I will never accept a new customer on the grounds that I am going to fix their home ice maker. Make sure the ice machine is getter water like it is supposed to. Check the filter and the tubes. If the problem persists, get a new ice maker. If that ice maker angers you, get some ice cube trays.

Ice maker does not make ice

when my ice maker went out in an older model the first thing i checked was to see if water was getting to the ice maker. then i was told by a repairman to manually turn the ice maker's teeth. i had to take the cover off to see the knob. i don't know which way your's is supposed to turn. be real careful. i have an old kelvinator, but that did it. repairman also said it is good to keep the maker making ice by using the ice up. hope you get it going again

Melting ice in icemaker. Repairman out twice and says he fixed it and yet my ice continues to melt and drips inside the freezer.

One of my most disliked things in life is to have a repairman go into the home and make repeat visits. Then when they have the gall to say it is fixed and they are back for a 3rd time.... (need I say more!?!!

Melting ice in the icemaker only means that the mold heater element for initially loosening the ice cubes from the tray in the icemaker is not shutting off or the bi-metal thermostat in the icemaker is bad.

The ice maker test procedures are here:

I would print that out and hand it to the repairman the next time he walks through the door. Simply state "This may help you compete the job right." and leave it at that.

The sad news it it could take replacement of the ice maker to rid yourself of the melting ice saga.

Hopefully he can use the printout and then get the necessary parts to get you back in business real soon.

Thanks for using Fixya!

Musty smell/taste from water dispenser in refridgerator

The icemaker has mold or mildew in the little nooks and crannies. An appliance parts supplier might have something available for flushing but I am not sure. There might be something in the ice bin or on the auger contaminating the ice and water as well. Check back to the source as the water supply filter may have accumulated something unpleasant while the ice maker was down. Hope this input helps.

Kenmore Refrigerator stopped dispensing water

Look up through the ice despencer on the front door of the freezer. Is the flapper door open? If so it needs to be fixed. If its not then try leaving the freezer door open for 3+ hours to defrost the frozen line in the door. If that doesnt work, the water valve must be changed.(located behind fridge, take off back cord board panel at bottom, the valve is blue)... GOODLUCK!
