On Brother machines the baud rate is set automatically during the handshake with the other machines, turning off the ECM usually helps when you are getting a lot of communication errors.

After raising the rear cover (hinged at the back), lift up on two matching plastic levers, one at each side. Raise the print assembly, also hinged at the back. Lift out the print cartridge. Note the arrow molded into the top to show which way the new cartridge should be inserted.

The complete print cartridge is a PC201, and you can buy it from www.brothermall.com if you can't find it locally. They also sell boxes of two or four rolls (PC202RF, PC204RF), if you want to save a buck by refilling your existing cartridge.

If the fax is printing fine on one side, but fades to blank on the other, the problem is not your printing cartridge, but one of the latching levers you lifted to access it. Sometimes one cracks at the hook at the bottom. It still holds the print assembly down, but not tightly enough to print on that side. The crack is invisible until you pry at the hook with a fingernail.
