If there is a new version available, follow these steps :

Tap "check update" in "Settings"
Then go to "about" and go to "system update" to check if the firmware is latest.

Steps to update :
1) Go to "Need Help?" page of ASUS official website http://www.asus.com/support to download ZIP file of firmware.
2) click the ZIP file after downloading is completed
3) Connect your tablet with PC via micro USB cable, and copy the ZIP file to the root dictionary of internal storage of tablet
4) Detach micro USB cable from the tablet to make the notification for firmware update popped up on status bar
5) Tap "System Update File Detected.." and follow steps to update firmware
Now your firmware is updated.

This may be a firmware problem. I had this problem. Download a android firmware app. Actually it's called android firmware and updates app and it's free. I don't think these cheaper tablets update as they should, that causes them to not connect to the internet. Why? I don't know. It drove me crazy. I tried everything. could be corrupted data or bad app,going to settings and reset to factory default that should fix corrupted data, if it still persists check for firmware updates in the settings, then check for app updates. if it still exists after that return back to factory for warranty repair

I had this problem with 2 of these tablets. I got one of hem working by upgrading the firmware. They had an issue with angry birds and some other games not working which they resolved with this firmware update. Go to their web site and follow the firmware update instructions. I think it seems to be a software issue with the battery and not the battery itself. After I upgraded, the tablets no charges and plays angry birds.
