Generic problem for all Camcorders
DOWNLOADING FROM CAMERA TO COMPUTER
CANNON VIDEO CAMCORDER. WE CANNOT DOWNLOAD FROM CAMERA TO COMPUTER. WE HAVE THE MANUAL BUT IT IS VERY VAGUE AND DOES NOT GIVE ENOUGH INFO.

- i am trying to download video from the ZR 500 to my computer via a firewire cable. When i start up the camera - XP doesnt recognize the device - and when i go to movie maker - it doesnt recognize the device either. I tried to download some drivers from Canon - but they wont work either. Am I missing something? This shouldnt be that difficult...- spielberg200Mar 12, 2009

Digital Video (DV) camcorders use a small port, usually located underneath the LCD flip-out screen, or behind a small plastic cover on the camera's body. My Canon has it on the front under the microphone. A special cable is required to plug into this port, and then into either the computer's USB or Firewire port. The camera is turned on, plugged in and Windows XP/Vista will offer to import the footage.
Analog (8MM, Hi-8, VHS-C) use a cable that has a headphone type plug on one end and audio/video RCA plugs on the other. These camcorders require you to equip the computer with a video capture device.
Without knowing the model of the camcorder, it is impossible to give any additional information. The operating system you are using would also be helpful information.

I have the Sony TRV328 Handy cam video Hi8, I am using Power VCR2 software to capture movie to computer. I can captur video and even convert to a DVD, but I can not capture sound from Handy cam to computer. What is the problem? I am using Svideo port from cam to computer. One wire, but no sound!

Hi. I have a Canon ZR830 and I am having trouble downloading the video from tape to my Mac (OSX 10.4.11). It's strange because it worked perfectly for a while but now when I have it connected and on (I checked the connections), the camera is not even recognized. This happened all of a sudden and has me really confused. Any ideas?
