When I turn on the power the machine beeps. Then goes to check the battery and returns to line. Then I hear a click, ans it goes back to battery and then back to line and repeats until I turn the unit off. I replaced the batteries with fresh batteries.

Most UPS's will check the voltage of the battery periodically when the UPS is running and all is well with the AC power. If the test returns a "fail" on the voltage of the battery, many UPS's will start acting strange. It sounds like this may be the case with yours. The batteries can be changed by removing the access door on the bottom of the unit. A phillip screw holds it in. sounds like it is failing. When was the last time you tested its capacity? Test it to see how long the battery works. If it doesnt then get a new one or send it back where you got it.

shady545, If units have batteries older than 3 years of age, they may need to be replaced. I suggest you evaluate each unit one by one and try swapping in a new set of 12v 12ah or 18ah fully charged batteries to see if that will clear-up the problem in at least one unit. I had to replace both batteries in my APC1250 when one battery developed a shorted cell. Let me know what you find out with your units. 12fixlouie 30min north of Windy City

With all 5 units behaving the same, I would expect that the power is still out of range. If the power is too high or too low (see manual for thresholds) the unit will stay on battery power to protect the attached equipment. If you have the software loaded, it will show you what the input AC voltage is at. Otherwise, it could be time for new batteries: http://batteryinternational.com/apc-smartups-1000-ups-battery-ups-batteries-f2.html
