Freezer and Refrigirator not cooling

By TheCollector on Nov 09, 2007

" "
The freezer and refrigirator are not cold.
The refrigirator was unplugged for a week.
After plugging it back in, the temperature inside the freezer and refrigirator remains warm.

Evaporator: room temperature (to the touch)
Evaporator fan: running
Defrost Heater: room temperature (to the touch)
Condenser Fan: running
Cold Controls set to 3 (factory)

Fridge manufactured: 07-2005
What could be the problem? What to check for?

-   I have a Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator (model # 106.5706.601). The freezer stop working properly as many of the contents are thawing, however they remain "cool" tempature wise. I opened up the back panel and the fan is still running and there is power to the compressor. I'm not sure the relay is working properly though. Additionally, the water dispenser is working but there is no new ice being made in the automatic dispenser. Can you assist me in troubleshooting?-   bwalk05

You didn't say if the compressor is running or not. If it is and all other things you stated are running then it has a sealed system problem. The sealed system comes with a 5 yr warranty in most cases (check owners manual). If the compressor is not running then listen for a click at the compressor. If you hear the click then I would replace the relay on the compressor. If you need further help I will need the complete model # off the sticker inside the fridge section.

My mini-fridge just stopped working the other day. I just unplugged it, and the motor is warm, so it has been getting an electric current through it, but it is not cooling at all.

My Whirlpool side by side refridgerator with the ultra ease filtration system broke down this morning. It was fine yesterday, but I woke up to get a glass of ice water and all of the cubes had melted, with water all over the bottom of the freezer. Both sides are not cooling. We unplugged and let it sit for 5 minutes and replugged it in, but still nothing happened. We checked the back of the fridge and there is no sound from it at all. However, the lights on both sides work, I am confused.
