Ps3 2.0 firmware update prevents viewing all media server movies

Since upgrading to firmware 2.0 for some reason the movies which were on my media server are now only playing for short periods on the PS3. Some movies are showing up as only being 18 seconds in lenght, others 45 minutes??

Re: ps3 2.0 firmware update prevents viewing all media...

You need to try to re-Update your PS3 from a memory card. Follow the directions on to download the update using your regular PC and copy the update to a Memory card that has at least 120Mb of free space.

Go to Click on "Playstation 3", then click on "Playstation Network". Click on "System Update". Scroll to the bottom of that screen. Click on the next to last bullet called "Update using a PC" Follow the directions in detail.

I need to renew my ps3 BD encryption key to watch blue ray movie

Some newer blu ray discs require that your system be updated to view the movie. This is due to a security "encryption" set by various movie companies. (they are trying to prevent people from copying their movies).
If your PS3 is connected to the internet this should be done automatically when trying to view the movie.
hope it helps

PS3 How to Fix Trophies Error

This error is associated with a failure of the console to synchronise Trophies with the PSN Network.

First off, bear in mind that this problem can be caused by the PSN network itself when the servers are undergoing maintenance or is offline for some reason. The error is also known to occur at times of 'Peak Traffic' on the network so you may need to try again at a different time to get your trophies to synchronise properly.

To resolve this error manually follow these steps;

1) First make sure the system is online and can connect with the internet.

2) Under Game go to Trophy Collection.

3) Instead of X use the Triangle button and then select Sync with Server.

If these steps fail to resolve the issue try again later when network traffic has calmed down a bit and use the same procedure as outlined.

Important: Make sure you are running the latest firmware version at least 3.15 or later (latest is 3.21 but be careful with this one - see here). The reason for this is that Sony resolved most of these synchronising issues with updated firmware.

To upate your firmware - Go to Settings - System Update - Update Via Internet

If this helps please leave a vote for the solution. Thanks.

Can i downgrade my 3.55 ps3 want to upgrade from 80gb to 500gb

You can change the HDD without have to downgrade or upgrade your firmware. just make sure you have the oficial update in a flash drive formated as fat32, then just do a backup (for save-games) and change the Hard Drive.
If you use a custom firmware (like kmeaw) you cant sync yout trophies with the server (without some homebrews), so you will lose it.
Good luck.

Round icon on top right corner.. doesn't read any media - games, movies, etc.

Update 3.30 just bricked your PS3. A future firmware update may fix this but so far Sony is denying any knowledge and telling users to send their console back to them.

Cant find a media server on my ps3

make sure your PC and PS3 are networked (you can do this via wireless but using the LAN cable is better if you want to watch films)

You need to set your PC up to be the media server. you will then be able to stream all you music and movies that are on your pc to your PS3

Upgrade your copy of windows media player to 11

once you have done this go to the libary icon. Select sharing and select share with other devices.

Then boot your ps3 up and search for media server

You should see a dialoge box on your telling you a new device want to access. Tell it yes. then you should be able to your view the entire libary.

To access your music etc you always need to make sure media player is running on your pc

Hope this helps.

My ps3 won't play blue ray movies!

PS3 has a AACS (Advanced Access Control System) is a copyright-protection technology that is used on Blu-ray Discs. The copyrighted content is protected by setting an encryption key on both the disc and the device used to play the disc.

An AACS encryption key expires in 12 to 18 months and must be renewed, so no matter if you have a new PS3 or using it already make sure you keep upgrading your PS3 firmware regularly.

There are two ways to update as listed below:

* Update via Internet
* Update via Storage Media

Download the update data directly to the system from the Internet. The latest update is automatically downloaded.

Select Settings -> System Update, Download the latest update data from the Internet. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the operation.

You also perform this system update via a storage media, Use update data saved on a disc, Memory Stick™ or other media. Download the update data from a Web site using a PC

Hope this helps, Wishing you happy holidays and happy Gaming

I put in a BluRay movie and it shows on the menu but when I hit X to play it, the screen goes black and will not play. PS3 games are hit and miss.

It sounds like you are having a firmware problem. This is common with blue ray. You will have to go to the ps3 site and download the firmware upgrade for your system. I think you can upgrade automatiacally if your ps3 is hooked up to the internet. Go to menu settings and look for updates for firmware or divers...

Please don't forget to give very good ratings, they are important

I cant get version 1.17 to get online

You probably need to update your firmware. To do so, you'll need an appropriate storage device (usb mass storage device, memory stick, etc.).
Updating your firmware will most likely fix this problem.
The process of updating your firmware without going online is available on the playstation site, here:

I cannot be sure that this is your problem because there is no firmware version 1.17 so you may be referring to an update to a game.

If this is the case, you should try uninstalling the game from your hard drive, re-installing or downloading it, and then running it to update it if necessary.

If you are still having problems, it may be your router. Some cable companies have built in firewalls in their router that prevent access to certain ports on the internet and can cause other devices to malfunction.

Hope this helps!

Try first to establish a success connection at a nearer distance. Your signal strength might not be strong enough to have a lasting connection
