Question about Linksys WRT54G2 Wireless Router

All lights on router were on and i took ethernet cable from modem and plugged directly into computer and internet came on i tried unplugging the router but still could not get internet do i need to push re-set button and try to get internet through router again or shoul i just get another router. this is model no. wrt54g2 v1

Hi,

When you say all lights on the router are ON, does this mean that even there is no ethernet cable connected to the router the lights are still ON? Yes, may still want to revieve it by pushing the reset (use a pen or paper clip) buttton for 30 seconds and then unplug the power and then plug it back in. See if the lights are stable, then try to test the connectivity between the computer and the router. Connect your PC to your router and then go to Start>Run> and then type cmd and hit Enter.

Once you're on the black screen, type ipconfig/all and hit Enter.

See if you're getting an IP address from the router. By default it will assign 192.168.1.100 to your PC.
If you are getting 192.168.1.xxx, see if you can ping the router. Just type on the black screen, ping 192.168.1.1 and then hit Enter again.

If you get replies then there's a chance to make it working. Just access the Web UI, open a browser and type 192.168.1.1 and hit Enter.

Once you're on the Setup page of the router, double check your Internet Connection Type and make sure you have the correct settings. Connect your Modem to the Internet port of the router and then go to the status page of the router and see if your getting an Internet or WAN IP address. If yes, then try to surf the internet.

I suggest the you also upgrade your router with the lates firmware version available on the Linksys Web site.

Can't get to internet. says i'm hooked to internet but cant go any where.


Check the lights on your modem and make sure that it is connecting. If it is, power off the modem (unplug it normaly) and the router (same unplug). Now wait a few mins, power the modem back on first and wait for all the lights to turn green (some cable modem will have a yellow light). Now plug in the router and wait for all its lights to come on. Now try the internet again. If this fails disconnect the router from the modem (ethernet cable) and plug your computer directly into it. Restart the modem as you did before and when all the lights are on, try internet again. If you have internet at this point the problem is in the router somwere, if not call your internet service provider.

Have 2 computers connected to Netgear WGT624NA router via ethernet connectors and have operated well for over a year. Now have gotten DSL and have run phone line to modem and via ethernet cable have...


Have you tried to reset router. It has to be done in order.
1. unplug router
2. unplug modem
3. shut down computer and restart after waiting 1 min
4. after restarting computer plug power back into modem and wait for all the lights to start blinking
5. after the modem is working plug power back to router and plug in the computer with ethernet cable and make sure you have internet,
6. try to link up with wireless,
If this does not work you will have to setup the router for wireless if it is att wireless you will have to call them to give you the password to set it up.

Modem light keeps blinking Have tried resetting. Restoring to default settings. If I hook the computer directly to the time warner modem I can acces the internet fine. Thanks


If the modem light keeps blinking, it means that the router hasn't been configured yet. Also, rarely, it can be an issue with WAN port/modem port on the router or the ethernet cable connecting the modem to router or finally, modem may not be working as its not applicable in this case(as you said).
How to configure the router for Time Warner?
1.Connect comp.--(gray port) router (yellow port)--modem
2.On the computer, open the router page by typing 192.168.2.1 in the address bar of browser
3.Under Internet Settings, change the connection type as Dynamic.
4.On the far left column, click on "MAC address" under Internet WAN.
5.Click on clone and apply changes and finally check Internet status
6.If internet status > Not connected, we need to do a network power cycle
7.For this, unplug the power from router, then from modem, then unplug the coaxial cable from cable modem.
8. Wait for 10 sec, then connect the coaxial cable, then connect power to modem, wait for lights on modem to get steady, then finally, plug in the power to router.
Now, you may see proper lights lit on the router.

Computer wont connect to internet with router


Troubleshooting steps:
1) Make sure that you can get it to work if you go from the cable/DSL modem directly to your computer
2) Assuming that works, disconnect the cable from the back of the computer and plug it into the WAN/INTERNET connection on the router and take a different cable and go from one of the LAN ports (labelled 1-4, typically) to the computer
3) turn off the computer, unplug the router and unplug the cable/DSL modem. Plug in the cable/DSL modem and wait for the lights to stabilize. Plug in the router and wait for the lights to stabilize. Finally, turn on the computer and try it.

How to connect Netgear to Time Warner internet modem? I have Netgear installed on my computer, and I have the internet modem plugged in to my computer.


Just disconnect the ethernet cable from the computer and put it into the slot called internet on the router then run ehernet cable from port 1 to computer.

Please clarify what you mean by ''Connect with an ethernet cable''


Ethernet cable means CAT5 or UTP for others or LAN cable. The connection should be LAN port of your computer to LAN1 of your router.

And you can connect also the internet cable usually ethernet cable from your internet provider directly to (ethernet cable)WAN port of your router to get signal from your internet provider.

Also if you get this message, this could also means you still don't set up or configure the router's settings to communicate when your LAN and router. They must see each other to access the router's utility webpage.

Computer cabled to Dynex enhanced G wireless will not connect


Unplug the router for ten seconds and plug it back in, it needs to reset. Some routers have a reset button. I often wait longer than ten seconds, I find a beer is usually the right amount of time. Sometimes the modem needs a reset also; unplug everything, then plug back in sequence, with the modem first, the wait, then the router, wait, then turn on your computer. That system works for any brand modem and router.

Automatic installation failure


unless you were switching from DSL to cable Broadband, there usually wouldnt be much reason to rerun the software just because you got a new computer. when you ran the software the first time on the other computer, it was the router you were setting up, not the computer.
if the new computer is not getting internet when hooked to the router, try this.

1.turn off computer and unplug electricity from router and cable modem.

2. connect all ethernet cable to the right location. ethernet from modem to router goes in the non-numbered port, ethernet from your computer to router goes in numbered port.

3. plug in cable modem electricity first, wait for all its lights to come on like normal.(this part is important). the ethernet light on the modem (it might be labeled ethernet, link, pc link, or something similar) will not be lit, this is normal until you get to the next step

4. plug in the router electricity, give the router 2-3 minutes to get connected to the modem.

5. start up the computer, wait for everything to fully load and check internet again.
