Water leak from Refrigerator

There is water leaking from the refrigerator. I am not sure where the water is coming from but a puddle of water is built up under the freezer side of the refrigerator. Please help. I would hate to spend on repairs when the problem is something that I can fix myself. Thanks.

Thanks for responding so quickly but pardon my the drain located inside the freezer or is it outside of it at the back so that I have to pull the fridge out from its cobey for me to see it? Also, should I unplug the fridge before flushing out with water? Also, you mentioned an evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. Is this something that can be touched from the bottom front of the freezer? I have not noticed any when I have been vacuumimg underneath the fridge. Please help. Thanks.

When you said lower back, is it outside lower back of freezer or inside lower back of freezer?

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help. Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

The drain is located in the freezer, at the back at the bottom. The evaporator coil is also in the freezer just above the drain. It's behind the back wall of the freezer. That's where the water comes from that goes down the drain. I just mentioned it for reference to the drain hole.

You don't need to unplug or access the pan underneath. You'll be able to clear it out from the freezer with water and pressure.

Mw Daewoo fridge freezer FRS-20321BE is leaking water copiously from the refrigerator I cannot see any source for this but puddles form and flow internally under the veg box. Help!

All depends on how much water is collecting. A lot of water indicated a leak from the ice maker. A small amount and it's probably a clogged condensate drain. Here's a YouTube video on a different brand showing a clogged drain, your may be similar (or not), but it might give you an idea as to where to look. Refrigerator dripping water inside FIX

Water is leaking on the freezer side and we must put a towel in the bottom and change it twice a week.

Hopefully you won't. I am not a "Repairman" so I'm just going off of what I've seen in my experience for refrigerators that put a puddle on the floor.

Usually a puddle is created when the refrigerator defrosts. All that ice in the freezer has to go somewhere when it defrosts, so some models (Not sure if they all still do this?) have a tray that you place in the bottom of the freezer that is there to catch this defrost water.

These trays can get dislodged from the drain that they are supposed to be sitting under to catch the water, or they fill up with water and over flow....then you see water on the floor.

So find out if your model has a tray to catch the water. At the bottom of the refrigerator see if you can remove the little grill (if your refrigerator as one of these?). If it does, you can look under the refrigerator and hopefully you'll see a usually white tray in there that as I mentioned is either displaced and not catching the water, or is full. Move it back to where it should be (there is usually a slot for the tray to slide into.) or empty/clean it out and put it back.

On a new model they may not have a tray like this, but if you think about it...where else is water going to come from out of a refrigerator. Having said just reminded you have a cold water connection to your refrigerator for cold water or ice making? Maybe that's loose or there is some other leak in that water/ice system?

But as I was going to say...refrigerators don't run on water so it's coming from one of those overfilled defrost tray, or a leak in your water/ice system...if you have one of those?

My water dispenser was not working. Tried the defrost trick and still no water. Noticed water under the refrigerator.

The Dispenser supply usually flows through the bottom, inside toward the back to cool the water. If the puddle is near the back. refrigerator section it's probably this water cooling arrangement. Usually. a number of the tubing loops near the back bottom edge. Connections here or tubing itself may leak. It may also be an undetected leak from the Filter housing or the filter is not properly seated or possible filter housing connections. I have had good success with paper towel detection method. Wrap
or paste, tape towel to suspect leak locations. They will soon appear and point to the apparent leak.

I have a frigidare 20.6 frig. approxiamately 10...11 yrs old im find water puddles on top glass shelf and bigger puddles at the bottom I cleaned as much as I could the fan is working help model...

Hello Donna, I am happy to assist you. I understand that water is collecting in your refrigerator. Self-defrosting refrigerators dispose of the water generated during the defrost cycle, usually via a tube or channel that directs the water to a pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. From the pan, the water normally evaporates.

If the tube or channel is clogged or obstructed, the water backs up and leaks into the inside of the refrigerator compartment. Then the water builds up at the bottom, inside of the refrigerator. When the water has built up for a time it may spill out of the front of the door opening. To fix this problem, clear the drain tube or channel and allow the defrost water to flow down to the drain pan.

I certainly hope this troubleshooting tip resolves your concern. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to respond.

I have a GE Profile Arctica refrigerator - water is leaking from the punctured plastic hose going up to the water filter (plastic hose from the bottom of the solenoid goes into refrigerator assembly)....

Good day!!!!

Refrigerators with a defrost cycle drain the melted water from the evaporator coils through a tube or a hole into a drip pan underneath the refrigerator. The water usually evaporates, but most times the pan is removable and can be drained. If this path of water is blocked at any point because the drain hole or tube is crimped or clotted with anything, it will back up inside the refrigerator area and try to find a way out, usually under the crisper drawers. To fix this, clear the obstruction in the drain tube. The drain pan at the bottom of the refrigerator can overflow or get old, crack, and develop a leak. Other times, mold can grow in the drain tube and clog it. Most refrigerators have an ice and/or water system built into them. This means that you have a waterline attached to the back of your refrigerator and it comes out as ice or cold water. Anywhere that water travels through the refrigerator and freezer can turn into a leak. To find the leak, you need to follow the tubes that carry the water through the appliance and make sure that all connections are tight.
Leaking containers or spills in the refrigerator can be misdiagnosed as leaks. First make sure that there are no puddles of juice, milk, water, etc. on one of the large capacity shelves.

I hope this solution will be helpful...Thanks for using fixya..

Water leaking underneath refrigerator/water freezing in bottom of freezer

I'm dealing with the same problem right now with the same refrigerator. The cold water tank (for the front dispenser) has a hole in it that leaks every time someone dispenses water from the front door. You will find the water tank behind the top slide-out drawer in the fridge. The leaked water flows down one of the water tubes through a hole in the bottom of the fridge and onto the floor. I'll bet you have the same problem. Good Luck.
