There is never a need for you to click on F10 during a Windows setup. Why are you doing that? Try again, and just follow the directions...they are very easy to follow.

How can i install my dell gx60 to factory setting

Dell computers will have a recovery disc set or recovery partition. If when booting the computer you see a option for (the F# key will vary) F11 Recovery, press that and follow the prompts for a "Destructive Restore" Otherwise you would need to insert the first recovery disc and follow the instructions on your screen. Sometimes the manufacturer doesn't include the discs and there will be a program on your computer to create a set or you can order a set from Dell.

I need a to get past my hdd password on my gateway 1450

The easiest way around this is use the recovery disc and reload the operational system from scratch, it will reformat the hard drive wiping out the password. If that is not an option go to www.ebay.com type laptop, make and model, and password, you will get a list from different sellers, or tighten the search hard drive password.

How can I reformat my hard drive on a toshiba laptop running windows vista. The recovery discs keep giving me an error 03-EEEE-0000 and someone on here said try reformatting first, so how do I do that?...

Run the installation again by booting it up from the windows dvd when it asks you what you wanna do choose fresh install not upgrade it's the bottom box.
you should then see a list of hard drives & partions under the list the word ADVANCED should be there in blue, click on it to get the format tools.I normaly just click on them & hit delete to get rid of them all untill i'm left with just the 1 full size empty unalicated hard Drive.because if you don't delete them they start putting info in the system files form the old windows you just got shot of i.e the boot sector witch will just causes problems latter on.
Then pick the nice clean empty drive in the list as the drive to install windows on & just carry on installing windows as normal.
good look mate.
Oh you will need drivers once you've installed windows coz the'll have all been deleted so just e-mail me & i'll tell you how to get them all for free.
E-MAIL: [email protected] OR just type djtatty into google & you should find me

http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9108198/Microsoft_offers_free_Vista_to_XP_downgrade_help
Obviously, the most convenient way to downgrade is to do so without reformatting. In order to do that, you need to have a real retail CD of Windows XP. If all you have is a recovery disk that came with your computer, you’re not going to be able to do it this way. You will need to reformat.
To downgrade, use the following as a guide:
  1. Do a full backup of your current, Vista system. If something happens, you can always revert to the backup.
  2. Boot your computer off the Windows XP disc. Just pop the CD into the CD-ROM and reboot. If, for some reason, your computer boots without looking for the CD drive, you need to go into your system BIOS and change the boot order so that it checks for the CD drive during the boot process.
  3. When the computer asks to press the space bar to boot from the CD, do so.
  4. When Windows XP Setup starts up, press “R” to enter the recovery.
  5. If it asks you to choose a Windows installation, press a number and hit Enter. The likely number will be 1.
  6. If you get asked for an Administrator password, enter when asked. If you do not know it, you will need to abort and go back into Windows Vista to get your password.
  7. At the command prompt, we’re going to use the “fixboot” command. We’ll use the following commands in sequence to prep for XP:
  8. fixboot
    fixmbr
    cd \
    ren windows winvista
    exit

First of, let me give thanks before hand to any one that can help me. I am somewhat of a geek so, i have tried a few things to fix my computer but nothing is working. It all began with boxes showing up...

Yes, your recovery discs will re-partition your hard drive. As long as they were created from your computer or bought from HP direct. This will however lose any software and files you have put on the system since you bought it. Beware!! :)

There are several types of password lock ups.
If you forgot the password on the log on screen where it asks for the username and password, you need to do recovery on the computer with the recovery disc that comes with it.

If the lock up is upon powering on the computer where you can see a blue screen and asks for a password, it is a BIOS power on password and there is no way to bypass this. You need to send it to an authorized service provider to reset it.

If it is an HDD password upon boot up, sad to say, the HDD needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

Powermate ES setup cannot find hard drive

Do you have the recovery discs that originally came with the computer? If you do, I would use these to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows. This would be the fastest option.

To do this:
Insert the disc into the CD-ROM
During boot-up and before the 'Use last known good configuration screen' you're speaking of, it'll ask you do 'hit a key to boot from CD' -- Do so
Follow the on-screen instructions. Your objective is to clean the hard drive completely (reformat) and reinstall windows (recover).

If you do not have the recovery disc that came with the computer, you can use the exact same steps above with a Windows XP disc. Be sure to 'format' and 'install' windows--not just 'repair.'

Re-boot computer when all finished.

ACER laptop 5050

Its NOT the hard drive itself. Its the master boot record on the hard drive that has failed. The master boot record is like an index or an address book of a hard drive. It hold records of whats on the hard disk and the physical location of files and directory's. What most likely happened was the computer was NOT shut down correctly and a power serge corrupted the master boot record or someone accidentally or purposely deleted files they should not have. If you are not able to follow jmorgan123 advice, the easiest way to fix this is to re-install windows using the recovery disk (operating system cd), HOWEVER you WILL loose all your files on your hard drive as you will need to reformat your drive during the re-install. If you are unsure how to install windows put the system recovery disc in the drive and follow the on screen prompts. If you still can get your computer working after you try a re-install of windows, maby your best bet is to return the computer under the warranty.
