Question about Refrigerators
13 year old GE REFRIG. MODEL#TFX30PRYAA. side by side both fridge&freezer do not cool properly. Ice tray remains cool water no ice cubes formed , fridge does not keep a can of soda cold at all. I cleaned the condensor coils& I also unplugged the unit for 24 hrs and replugged it and the unit worked for 3-4 days and then went back to original problem. I turned the the temp. control switch all the way to the right with a screw driver the fridge stopped and then restarted after approx. 45 min. Dear EXPERT what is the problem with my GE and what part needs fixing? THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT!
It sounds like your defrost control timer is working, but your defrost heater is most likely burnt out. It is a part number
and is located behind the back wall inside the freezer. Turning the refrig off for 24 hours helped melt some of the accumulated frost, but not all. You will have to take that back cover off inside the freezer and melt all the frost with a hair blower, replace the defrost heater and reassemble.
