X 300 fuel problem?

I have a John Deere x 300.It has a v twin 16hp Kawasaki motor I have to hold the choke open to get it to run properly. I hit a stone a couple weeks ago. Could the timing be knocked out of whack? Or is it the carburator. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Been out of work and can't afford to send the tractor out for repairs right now....

Thanks,

Jim

John deere 445 96 w 22 horse kawasaki fuel injected starts fine runs but rough with raw exhaust gas new olugs new fuel &filter new oil

When it runs rough is it blowing dark smoke? This is a sign of running rich like a choke will do and can cause stalling especially when the motor is warmed up. If it is not blowing dark smoke it sounds like maybe your injectors are not working properly and it is not getting enough fuel through them under load. either way as an injected machine it sounds like injectors may be the culprit since youve taken care of some other issues. You might try running a heavy dose of an injector cleaner through it (I've had good results with lucas brand) and see if that helps. Otherwise, you might try to manually clean the injectors.

I have a John Deere Z820A 25 Horse Kawasaki. After about 45 minutes it acts like it is running out of gas. It will start again with the choke out, but won't run for long. I have replaced fuel...

I am an ex-z820a owner because these machines are terrible. Deere issued a PIP for these motors and maybe yours has not beed done yet. The best thing to do is get with a dealer see if the PIP has been completed then sell as fast as you can. I traded my z820a on a z920a and couldnt be happier.

Will only run if you hold the choke half way

It is starving for fuel. Can be partially clogged fuel filter or the carburetor needs cleaning.

Lack of power

Yes FUEL, the Motor is NOT getting enough. Things to check, Gas, Float valve, float bowl, Mixture, Spark Plug, Spark Plug Lead, & ends. Check for any clogged fuel filters.

Idle hunting

I feel that with the description you have given, that the problem lies with your carby.
It's either
- the choke is coming on
- the carby needs a service. Either a shaft is sticking or the fuel jets are blocked.
- low engine oil
these could all cause the above problem
