Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a refrigerator that is 16 years old and in good condition. Never have had a problem but this morning everything was warm and the freezer was cold. There was a little frost around the upper left back (damper or dumper). I removed the front and cleaned the condenser (filthy). It took all day but seems back to normal temp. Shoud I still have technician come out or do you think by cleaning condenser my problem is solved?

The ice could be related to a defrost problem. Check the back wall of the freezer for ice buildup. The evaporator coils are behind it and if iced heavily will block the circulation of cold air.

Hi KitchenAid fridge - 12 years old This morning

If you have a frost buildup in the freezer section (could require you to remove the INSIDE back panel to check). If there is frost then you need to defrost the unit and then test the defrost system.

Here are some links to tell you how to troubleshoot each component: The defrost heater is easy to check with a ohm meter. If you have continuity, then it is good. is instructions on how to test the timer. is instruction on how to test the defrost thermostat.

You should also check to make sure the the condenser coils are clean and that air flow is good over it. I.E. the fan is operating, and not a lot of debrie on or around the condenser coils.

Hope this helps.

If your light inside does not light when you open the door you problem could be power related. Your description sounds as a power supply problem. Try moving the power cord to another outlet.
