Wireless connection will not work

I am using a Linksys Wireless-G WAP54G 802.11 g/b with a comcast modem. I can access the internet when directly connected, but when trying to use my wireless feature it does not work. I get a message; "wireless connection is good but status states limited or no connectivity."

The environment is a private home. There are others in the neighborhood that use their own wifi. My computer says; Wireless Network connection (chadmarymaliea). This is the connection for my wireless network.

What kind of environment is the unit being used? Private home with others in the neighborhood using Wi-Fi or possibly an apartment or massive community setting? Or you the only broadcasting Wi-Fi station?

The computer is viewing the signal, but its not connected yet. For that you have to enter a "key" in hexadecimal format. In other words you have to configure the security of the wireless connection on the router, then you have to enter the "key"that the router gives you. To enter the administrative configuration of the router, connect with the cable the computer and in the internet browser, enter 192.168.0.1 or search for gateway IP address of the computer. There you configure Wireless Settings. Always use encryption for security reasons. WEP encryption will be good.

peter_picasa:

You cannot use a Wireless Access Point (WAP) to connect directly to your IPS's modem. A WAP does not provide the ability to share a single IP address on the internet like a router does.

Either return the WAP for a refund and buy a wireless router or buy an Ethernet wired-only router and plug the WAP into the LAN side of that router. You would then plug the WAN side of the Ethernet wired router into your modem.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I can not access the linksys access point, the 192.168.1.245 does not link.

the default address is 192.168.1.1. if you still can't access you can factory default by pressing and holding the reset button on the back for about 10 seconds. after it restarts the ip address will be 192.168.1.1 leave the username blank and the password will be admin.

Did you try speaking with linksys directly? They can walk you through the troubleshooting online. Switching channels is an option in the wireless section of the router setup. See the documentation for more information.

SETTING WIRELESS

1. Shut off the power to your cable or dsl modem for about 30 minutes.

2. Connect the ethernet cable from your modem to the Internet port on the router.

3. After 30 minute power on ONLY the modem NOT the router

4. Wait about 60 seconds and power on the router

Try it now.

My Linksys Wireless A P only allows one computer to connect

You need to get a router in order to share the Internet connection. The existing Internet connection (from the DSL/cable modem for instance) goes into the WAN port of the router/firewall, then you connect the AP to one of the LAN ports.

Today it is often a better idea to buy a wireless router instead, i.e a router with built-in wireless AP. They are very inexpensive.

Linksys WAP54g v3.1.Can't connect more than 1 computer wirelessly

That is normal for you not to be able to get online at the same time, you are using a Wireless access point, you access point does not have a dhcp server to share the internet on both laptops. What you should have put in there is a wireless router, for Linksys the model of a wireless router will be WRT54G or any model as long as it's a router.
