Slow boot up for Dell Inspiron 2200 - Celeron

My notebook runs on Win XP Home edition. The following problem noted recently.
1. Very slow boot up , at least 15 minutes to boot up
2. The hard disk spinning sound quite loud
3. Sometimes, cannot shut down properly with message
asking me to reset the BIOS
4. Data writing to a CD-RW CD disappear after writing.

I run a diagnostic test successfully, not indicating any problem.
Please advise what could be the possible problem. Should I re-install the OS with the CD provided?

Hutch is mostly right. The easiest solution would be to reinstall. However the noise you get from the hard drive is indicative of a failing disk. It would not hurt to replace it.

Yes, You should back up all your documents, photos, music, etc and reinstall the OS. Unfortunately, Windows is a fundamentally flawed system, and is easily overcome by viruses and even programs designed specifically for it. Reinstallation is the easiest solution for you at this stage.

My dell inspiron mini 10 notebook using window 7 pro..why it always hang when i opened many application..

The Dell mini computer runs on a Intel Atom processor and has just 1GB of RAM on it.. So the computer is designed only for internet surfing and launching small applications.. Thats the reason it is called as a netbook.. It comes with win starter edition... It is not highly recommended running a win 7 pro on this machine.. It can be really slow on this Operating system... Thats the reason your computer is slow.. Try to run inbuilt cleaning like disk clean up to see if there is any iimprovements in speed.. Else switch the Operating system to win XP or Win 7 Starter

Dell Inspiron 1150 Running slow. A friend of mine sent me a Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop from Japan. I formatted it and installed Windows Xp Home Edition (English) because it's Japanese. It did'nt come with...

click on start then click o nrun type prefetch and hit enter delete all the data in the folder ,
go to run box type %temp% delete all the data from the folder.
go to run , type inetcpl.cpl go to advance tab and reset the internet explorer this will work only if you have i.e 8 or 7 if you have i.e 6 in general tab delete files, history cache.
go to run , type regedit go to hkey_local_machine, then click system tab , then click control set 001 , click on control on the left hand side of the window you would see wait to kill double click on the service change the value to 2
do this for all the control set as diffrent system have diffrent control set , do not change the settings for current control set.
then close the registry editor ,
go to run box type cleanmgr and hit enter, disk clean up will popup select all the options and click ok .
once done restart the computer.
It will work much faster than what it was .

Possess dell inspiron 6000 centino wireless, need drivers and xp

You can contact Dell Technical Support and see if they will send you a new XP CD. All the drivers can be downloaded at for that system. If you can't get Dell to replace the CD, try Ebay. Here is an Example:

Install Win XP SP 2

Yes you can, Do I recomend it, no, Why?

Windows easily uses up to 756MB of RAM to run the O/S alone but can run at a minimum of 512MB.

I have personally seen it run on as low as a 900Mhz processor, 256MB of RAM and on a 10 gig hard drive.

If you decide to install windows XP on the specs you describe above please note the following.

1. System will be very slow and have lengthy start up times.

2. Applications may crash or take a long time to open.

3. With all the updates for WinXP you will easily use 8 gigs for installing XP and its updates. Not to mention whatever software you will use/install.

4. On a system with those low specs, you probably have a low end video card whcih may result in: A. chooppy windows, screen freezing, system crashes and lock ups, low video graphics all around.

I would probably go with windows 2000 instead. If your bent on having XP, at least upgrade the RAM to as much as possible. Then install windows and only install the programs you really need, remove any other junk.

Hope this is of some help to you, good luck

Inspiron 1150 Slow startup, slow printing, unable to run 2 programs at once

What Operating System do you run? If it is Windows XP SP2 (Home Edition or professional), here are some things you can do to speed up your system. 1st you should remove all programs that are not required from the start menu. Start > Run > Msconfig > startup tab. Unselect all that are not necessary. Also Right click on my computer > properties > Advanced > Performance settings > Adjust for best performance. This should speed things up a little. I would recommend atleast 512 MB of memory to run Windows XP and its applications decently. You should consider an upgrade.

Dell inspiron 7500 pentium 3, 18 gigs

Hopefully your other OS's are on a different drive letter (d: or e: for example). As long as they are then there is no conflict with XP.

You could effectively remove access to them by editing c:\BOOT.INI . Note that you will have to right click boot.ini, select "properties" and remove the "read only" and "hidden" properties for the file before editing it. I would recommend making a copy of the boot.ini first for a backup.

Then just open it with notepad. There will be one line for each OS in there. just delete the extra lines. Then you can just erase or format the partitions for the other OS's.
