This problem usually indicates you have failing hardware, (floppy drive, interface, or cable). It will need to be replaced or serviced by a knowledgeable technician.

Troubleshoot the problem:
Check the cable connections and carefully re-seat each plug at the drive, and at the motherboard. Otherwise, try a simple swap-out of the floppy drive itself if you have another one available. Make sure the system is turned off and has no power applied before touching anything inside the computer.

I have lost my floppy drive driver UF0002, I like to have that back so I can use my external floppy drive

You should not have to have a floppy disk driver as the machine (IBM format) recognizes the floppy drive upon boot up. Go into your BIOS setup and be sure that the floppy drive is turned on. It is always recognized as Drive A: or Drive B: Those two designations is reserved for floppy drives in the Basic Input Output System, reguardless if your machine came with an attached FloppyDrive.

The floppydrive always says the disk is not formatted. when I try to format the disk it won't do it. Can't get this thing to work.

Windows XP "natively" supports this "plug-and-play" USB device.
So, if it is "dead", search eBay for "external USB floppy" and buy a replacement.

I have a USB portable diskette external floppy drive. It is new. It is supposed to work by simply plugging the in teh usb. When I try to use it, it always tells me to format the disk. i of course, do not...

Try different and empty disk, then format it, when you can open it after you format it, then your first disk is damaged.

If still persist, then clean the drive using floppy drive cleaner, it should work.

it is possible the floppy has been corrupted or it was formated under a diferent OS.
so you must format it to be able to use it with your OS.

Asking to format not reading floppies

I can tell you just what I told someone else with the same problem a minute ago. Your computer doesn't support the floppy format you saved the data on the disk with. All you can really do is try putting the disk in every computer you can find until one of them reads it. So, basically, there may not be much you can do. Personally, I hate removable disks. I have that same problem with CDs all the time.
Well, good luck.

NOT FORMATTED

The error means 3 things:

1. Files format of the files saved on the Floppy disk is not readable on the OS or does not comply with the file format of the OS. So you really need to format it.

2. The floppy disk is brand new and you need to format it first.

3. The floppy disk is not working. Try a known working floppy disk.

The disk may have unrecoverable formatting errors making it useless. Or your hardware could be on the failure.

If you absolutely must , try purchasing or borrowing an external floppy drive and try to save the information to the disk on the external drive. If if formats and works then you know your internal floppy drive is bad.

If it has the same problems as formatting it in your internal drive, then the floppy itself is bad.

If I may suggest , in the future it would be wiser to save all your data to a removable USB Flash Drive. They are very very inexpensive and cost a lot less then a box of floppies :)

Won't read disks

Hey Rorel,

The issue could be either the floppy drive or the disk. If you have another computer with a floppy drive or know someone that does try using the disk on their drive. If the drive cannot read the disk then the disk is bad. If it ok the external floppy drive could be bad. Keep me posted.

Thanks,
