Sony RAM upgrade issues.

Hi, Trying to expand the RAM on my Sony PCV-RZ22G computer from 512 MB to 1024 MB by adding an additional card to my slot. However, when I reboot, the computer does not recognize the increase in RAM. Not sure if it is a BIOS problem or what the issue is. How do I tell if I have the most current BIOS update for my PC?

I ordered it from edgetech corp. According to their website, it should be compatible.

Are you sure you have the correct type of memory chip for your computer? It may not be compatible with your computer. Due to the problems I've encountered trying to get the correct type of RAM for a computer, I typically go to www.crucial.com and either manually search for the computer or let the website find the information. Then they will give you several options for memory that is guaranteed to work with your computer. There are some computers which require low-density memory and others which want high-density. It's easier to let the website tell you and order from them. The prices are very reasonable.

Hi lchangkee...
If you want to upgrade your ram, all you do is remove the ram that is in the computer, and replace it with compatible ram (same number) an example of that would be if your ram was SODIMM 512MB PC2100 DDR 266 512 MB LAPTOP 200pin MEMORY, then that is the type of ram you will want to replace it with but more like this.
SODIMM 2GB PC2100 DDR 266 512 MB LAPTOP 200pin MEMORY notice the only thing that changed was the amount from 512 mb to 2 gb. Most memory cards can be removed without any problem...refer to your owners manual as to where the ram is located Please take time to rate me

Hi, wondering if I should upgrade my sony vio pcv-rg22z and what the max upgrade on memory etc is?

Hi. I hope this information helps you out.

The rz22g model has a max memory amout of 1 gb, using two 512 mb slots.

So you can get 2 512mb pc2700 memory modules for it, as this would max out the memory just make sure that the memory is of compatible type and build. You can't just go get cheap pc2700 ram and put it in, it might not work at all.

As far as other upgrades, it has an ide interface, so probably won't be able to find a drive bigger than 500gb, but that's a pretty big drive right there!

For processors, It appears that a 3.0 ghz pentium4 w/ht is the best you can get to fit, that's if you can afford one. They can be a pricy investment, and in the long run, you could almost buy a new computer that has dual or quad core performance for about the same price.

You can get any brand of pci video card, i recommend nvidia, as it has better performance than an ATI card. The newer the better as far as models go, just get the one with the most memory for what you can afford. Most good video cards can cost about $100, but if you go to tigerdirect, they have a Galaxy nvidia gtx430 on sale right now. It has a giabyte of ram on the video card, as well as having vga, dvi, and hdmi jacks, so you can hook it up to just about anything nowadays.

I hope this has helped make some decisions, and hope that it goes well for you.

  • You Gateway only supports up to 8 GB. memory. Hence it will not see your 5 GB. dimms
  • tops: 8129 MB (8 GB.). 4- 2GB. Adding the maximum amount of memory will improve performance and help extend the useful life of your system as you run increasingly demanding software applications in the future.

  • Specs:
  • Installed: 1024 MB DDR2 (PC4200), 533 MHz memory (two 512 MB modules)
  • Expandable to: 8 GB (4 memory slots)

  • How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found at http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.aspx?qid=4251.

I want to upgrade my ram what type of ram should i use and how what is the maximum amount of ram i can upgrade to?

    Hi,
Memory Upgrade for Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop, the Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop to up to a maximum of 1.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) standard Memory installed. For best Laptop performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your Laptop.

    RAM Recognition 835GM PC Desktop

the memory is dual channel, so you have to use matched memory for it to work 1gig in each slot if possible, check the 1 gigs and 512's to see if they run at the same bus speed, if they are not matched there is your problem try a gig and a 512 in slot 0 to see if it picks the memory up, also there is sometimes an option in the bios to dissable dual mode
