Question about Dell UltraSharp 1704FPT 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

Dell Flatpanel turns on and off repeatedly

I have a dell flatpanel that turns on and off repeatedly. You never get to see the actual video feed though. Holding the power does nothing, it just continues to blink from green to off. I opened it up and looked around to see if there was anything obvious. I saw a couple larger capacitors (not the one by the entry of AC, but a bit further on, past the transformer on the same board) that were bulging a bit at the top which I thought could mean bad ones. Maybe it caught a power surge? Anyway, I'm not sure if replacing those will fix it so I'm curious if anyone has suggestions.

The monitor acts this way even not plugged in to a system, so I'm thinking it is all the monitors problem at this point.

Replacing whole boards is no fun! I'll try to find the capacitor types first I think and replace those to see if that fixes it. Cool site on that here by the way:

Yeah, try plugging the unit into another computer to see if it's doing the same thing. That will help you to determine if it's the monitor or the video card. Next, see if replacing either the power cable or video cable (I'm assuming you're using the analog and not the digital connection, here...) to see if it might be a pin that's loose, dropping the signal strength enough to lose the feed.

Well, that bit of information does make a difference. If it exhibits the same symptom all the time (even when it's got a signal) then it's not a fuse or power surge, it's not detecting the 75ohm feed from the video cable. That means defective circuit board. Sorry to say, but it needs repair/replacing.

Sanyo 32 in flatpanel, Is there a setting to maintain the volume between channels and commercials?

No thats a pain huh? It is not actually louder ..oh I know it seems louder but technically it isn't, You see what they actually do, is they compress the audio, into a special mid sound range, that to most people sounds LOUDER, and so you "Pay Attention" Thats why the automatic limiter, that IS built in won't work, diabolical huh?

Dell E173FPb 17" TFT LCD Flatpanel

Video cards that can handle two monitors at the same time have cables with two plugs on the monitor end.

If your video cable has two plugs on the monitor end, try the other plug.

Dell E193Fp Blue Screen

It can be due to the effect of some kind of magnetic effect.. If your monitor has the degauss feature then degauss it ONCE and see if returns to normal. Do not use degauss feature more than once in less than half an hour. It can damage your monitor.

Pink tint on Dell 1704FPT Flatpanel LCD

Unfortunately if you have tried a different machine (it could be a bad video card) and tried the cables most likely it is the screen itself. Typically when one of these lcd's begin to fail the pixles no longer access the blue field and you see mostly red instead of the other two colors. In short pink screen is terminal, it will last for a while longer.

My boss has an older dell flatpanel monitor with a cracked screen, it ran for about 900 dollars when he bought it, he is going to throw it away and i wanted to know if its worth keeping to get repaired

Probably not... to be honest. By the time you buy a replacement panel for it, you could probably buy a brand new screen for a few bucks more!

Unless the screen is absolutely HUGE, i'd let him bin it... or at very best, sell it on an auction website as good for parts. You might get $40 for it?

Heater blower quit working on my 2005 yukon. fuses appear to be O.K. any advise on what to look for next?

Look for:
More fuses, a blower relay, how the heck this relates to Dell Flatpanel Monitors; some wrenches and rubber gloves (over a liner glove if it's cold!), small animals hording food or nesting in your blower area (and thus likely also a bad air filter), a bad blower motor (or brush component) or drive circuit, or a heating element sensor whose sensibilities are lost or disconnected and thus telling the controls to chill until that's fixed.

I hope that if your Dell's stuck in the blower that this makes a good story on film.
