Question about HP Computers & Internet

HP DV4000 Widescreen desktop image does not fill screen

HP DV4000 Widescreen. During power-on/boot and when XP is running, Windows desktop does not fill the screen. Leaves 3/8'' black area at bottom and 2-1/2'' black area on right side. Win Display Settings force 1024x768. Everything works OK except for the reduced screen image.
Have reloaded HP Driver CD; Intel screen driver; and run XP Repair.
OS is XP SP2. Graphics card is Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS/910GML

Maybe it's hardware?? Thanks for any help.

Thanks, Tenusha. As I stated in my original post "Win Display Settings force 1024x768."

Doing this will change the screen image (creates distortion) but not increase the desktop image to cover the entire physical display area (WXGA, 1280x800)

Either the computer came with a recovery disc, or during the boot up at the HP screen thre should be some options. Typically F11 will get you into a recovery partition which should allow you to re-install Windows. This will wipe out any data you have.

Hp pavilion dv4000 pc notebook cant install windows xp from usb there is a continues blink cursor on the top left corner

You need to make the USB first boot in BIOS, or use the boot menu selection. Both are noted during start up.

Then there is the issue of the USB install is it bootable? You need software like Novicorp to make an USB Installer. gl

HP Pavilion DV4000 laptop screen only showing as 4:3 aspect ratio

Have you changed the resolution?
Go to control panel, display, settings, and make sure the resolution is set to more. Click on the advanced button and choose the tab for graphics or the graphics controller, choose properties, and adjust the screen area.
Please also consult this link recommended setting for HP notebooks. (click here)
If that doesn't do it, is there a possibility that the wrong driver has been installed. You can check the original product specs at hp.

Window will not boot up

IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT SEQUENCE IF BIOS CANT FIND 1ST DEVICE IT GOES TO NEXT AN SO ON,
TRY THIS.BOOT UP GET A FAR AS YOU CAN GET THEN PRESS AND HOLD THE POWER BUTTON(ABOUT 5 SECS)
THEN REBOOT.
IF THIS DOESNT WORK BUT YOU CAN GET TO THE WINDOWS SCREEN PRESS CTL+ALT+DEL AND CHOOSE LOG OFF THEN IN NEW SCREEN SELECT LOG ON.
IF THAT DONT WORK REINSTALL OS NOT REPAIR.
WHEN YOU GET TO THE INSTALL PAGE SYSTEM SAYS OS ALREADY INSTALLED CONTINUE TO INSTALL OR REPAIR .AT THAT STAGE EITHER CARRY ON AND INSTALL FRESH COPY OR REPAIR.

When you get to the normal/safe mode screen, select enable VGA. This will boot your computer using the standard 640 x 480 default. Once you are in windows, then you can go into the display properties and change it to a resolution that is compatible with your screen and computer.

Thanks and pelase take a moment to rate as fixya.
