A/C i have a 1996 cadillac car is it ok to put 134a freon in it

If the compressor locked up the chances there are metallic parts in the rest of the system are great. Flushing out the system is best left to professionals. If your system has not been converted from R 12 freon to R-134a freon, now's the time to do it. The oil in the R-12 system is not compatible with r-134a. If there is still freon in the system you cannot simply discharge it into the air.. The fine is huge. Have an AC shop do the work.

If in fact it does take Freon, it can be an expensive recharge because this nation requires an ASE Certification to even tough Freon. Yes, that is federal law in all 50 states. You can find out by finding an auto manual on your car to determine whether it takes 134A Refridgerant or Freon. Good luck...:)

PLEASE...PLEASE...PLEASE !!! Ensure you are connecting the can of freon to the correct, low side / suction, port...otherwise that can may explode.

You may want to also look at the decal under the hood somewhere that tells you the kind of freon that is serviced...and make sure it is R-134A...and not R-12.

You have to disconnect the battery in order for the compressor to come on so it will take in freon. The compressor is controlled by the computer so disconnect the battery to reset the computer than try putting in freon. hope this helps leave comment.

r134a is the replacement to all other a/c gas.so fully charge with 134.

A couple of things will cause this problem. The first is making sure the compressor has voltage (blown fuse). The most common is it is low on refrigerant. Freon 134a. Good Luck.

Requires R-134a refrigerant. Look for the black cylinder located on the passenger side under the hood. If you are unsure of how to proceed with recharging the system, consult with a certified technician.

If it's misting, this is a definite indication of an overfill. You should get a hose with pressure guage on it to avoid this. In the meantime, if a dangerous condition exists within your compressor. The optimal amount of pressure you're looking for is in the 40-45 psi range. Definitely needs attention or you will do damage to the system. Best of luck.

R 134A is now the choice for freon use in autos. The "old stuff" R 12 has been banned for some time now. You car is new enough to have R 134A in it You should not have any problems in finding someone to check and recharge if nessary. Hope this helps. Moe
