Put the bel around the tumbler first, then around the motor pulley, and finally put the farthest part of the belt at the pulley around the tensioner. Good luck.

I have a hotpoint model# dlb2880aacad. The belt broke. I bought a replacement part, giving them the model number to ensure the correct belt. It seems too long, but I am not quite sure if i am putting it on...

The belt needs to go over the tension pully too. This will make up for the slack. Check the internet under your model for diagrams. Good luck!

Hi maddy21350...
Make sure you have routed your belt correctly, if it is not properly routed then it can cause the problem you are talking about.
Go to the following webpage and see a picture of how to route your belt properly.
If you have it correctly routed the you got the wrong belt.

I changed the belt, it sounds like it works now but drum does not roll????

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

Things to check..

1. Belt and ilder pulley properly positioned?
Use this link to make sure you have it correct:

2. Make sure the drum felt seals are not rolled / folded over. If it is folded / rolled slide the shanke of a screwdriver under the felt and rotate the drum 360 deg until it straightens out. (Front and rear seals.)

3. Make sure the drum rollers are resting in the drum groove and not behind the drum

These manuals will be a big help: (page 25)

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

1991 Maytag dryer Model #LD 68424AAL Serial # A0190126HY

Are you sure that you hooked the belt up correctly, as it sounds like you may have missed the tensioner pulley. As this will tighten the belt around the middle of the drum

Maytag electric dryer:attached belt as per directions, but is still loose, the pulley seems to not give enough tension

You can verify your belt installation by going to Click on the "Repair Help" link at the top of the page, then locate the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under Special Features. Refer to Diagram E under the Maytag heading. If you say you have the belt installed correctly, make sure the tension spring is still installed. I hope this helps you.

Belt too loose

Are you sure you have the belt routed correctly? You can verify by going to and clicking on the "Repair Help" link at the top of the page. On the following page is a link entitled "Dryer Belt Diagrams" under the "Special Features" section. You will need to view diagram E for Maytag. NOTE: There is a tension spring on your idler. Make sure the tension spring has not come loose or fallen off. I hope this helps you. If you have questions, please let me know.
