Also, is there a way to get both sides of the lens cover to come down? One side is stuck up inside the lens.

Leave it to me to buy a camera that has the possiblity of having two different lcd screens. Of course, when I took the broken screen out, I threw it away and paid no attention to whether it said sony on it or not? Canon parts says the only way to tell is get one, install it and then if it doesn't work, send it back and get the other one. The ribbon cables I was speaking of are attached to the lcd screen. I have since found out that the wider ribbon, threads through to the front of the camera through a slim slot. Was told to attach a stiff ribbon to the cable to thread it. Please will some one tell me that it will be easier to replace the lcd screen on an sd1000. Bought the camera on ebay and have ordered the screen from canon. I can live with the lens cover not coming down. I will just keep it in the case when not using it.

For the lens cover issue: Try blowing lots of compressed air around the open lens shutter to clean the mechanism. Or use a hair dryer for a few seconds (don't want to heat up the camera). Also with the lens barrel extended and pointed downward, tap the lens barrel with a pencil while you extend and retract the lens by powering the camera on and off. A grain of sand in the mechanism is usually the culprit, and you want to try to dislodge it.

You can open it up, but only as a very last resort. The above procedures usually work if you try them enough. But for those particularly nasty stuck mechanisms, here's an example repair on a Canon Powershot A400 (do this at your own risk, and for others note that it will void your warranty):

What ribbon cables are you trying to install? Would this be the LCD+Backlight cables? Or the Lens+CCD cables?

As for the lens cover, has lens flap/cover repair, email him if you don't see your camera there.

My Compaq Presario CQ56 has a very bright pink screen. You have the screen closed at 45% or smaller and the screen returns to normal. You can also lift up the bottom of the laptop and place a holder

There's a ribbon cable that attaches the LCD to the motherboard that's come loose somehow. If you remove the screws from the front of the Laptop LCD Screen and look in the back, there should be a cable, simply unplug it, and plug it back into the slot firmly. If there's no tape on it, use some electrical tape to tape it in place once its plugged in correctly.

If that doesn't work, you may need a controller module that plugs in the LCD and located at the base.

I replaced the lcd screen. Now when the my camera is turned on i have a black screen with nothing on the lcd. Not even a menu display. I have pushed the lcd ribbon as suggested but no luck. Need advise....

The backlight is not turning on, it's the smaller of the two ribbon cables on the LCD assembly.

Make sure you have a backlight on your new LCD (not everybody sells it with the backlight!) or reuse your old backlight with the new LCD.

Check the backlight cable, is it ripped? Even slightly? If so, you need a new backlight.

Canon Powershot SD750 powers up fine; lens extends fine. The LCD is black. I can see a faint image - enough to enter the menu and change settings. Increasing brightness has no effect. Seems like the screen...

It's not the screen, but its backlight that is the problem. It's likely a poor connection of the ribbon cable in its connector socket. This problem will require either professional repair, or your opening the case to reseat the backlight ribbon cable in its connector. Here's a disassembly of a somewhat similar SD600 to give you an idea of what's involved.

White display screen

Sounds like the Backlight is working but the LCD is not. The first thing I would try is opening up the camera(if this is the sort of thing you are comfortable doing) and pulling out and then pushing in the LCD ribbon.

See this image for where the ribbon for the lcd connects (at least on a SD600).

LCD screen is black

If you look really closely at the screen can you see an image? You say you can see if you point the camera at bright light... Sounds like your backlight is either damaged or just unplugged.

If you are comfortable doing the repair, you need to open up the camera and remove the front and back case. Check the small ribbon cable under the LCD, is it damaged or unplugged? Try taking it out and plugging it back in, now does it work?

Keep the camera away from static shock, and only turn the camera on with the front and rear body on, never off.

If you need somebody to do the repair for you, we are an affordable digital camera repair business (Google: darntoothysam) and we can definitely take care of it for you.

Canon PowerShot A75

If you get a blank screen and the camera is on,there are two ribbons to the LCD one (the smaller one) is power to the screen. the larger ribbon is the data lines. If the camera is on the problem is a loose connection of one or both of the ribbons. Hope this helps Jerry

White screen

Most likely either your LCD has gone bad or the ribbon cable for the LCD has become disconnected (even slightly) and is causing the LCD to not work properly.

If you need help with either parts or having us install an LCD please let us know.

I might make sure that the lcd panel and backlight are sufficiently attached. It is fairly easy to take apart the camera with a small screw driver. You might want to take it apart and push the two ribbon cables in tighter and then try again. (Make sure to take out the battery first)
