A 6 amp fast blow fuse is usually enough for any marine VHF radio.

SOURCE: My uniden ltd 715 receives

Just to clarify something, you say that your hand-held VHF can receive a clear transmission from the Uniden, now which of the radios are buzzing, the Uniden or the HH?. If it's the hand-held buzzing try transmitting on the low watt on the Uniden, get some distance from the radio, because if the hand-held are to close to the on the Uniden on high watt you will get a buzzing, the signal are overpowering the receiver of the hand-held, try getting the minimum of 30 feet away. Good luck.

I have a cobra 29 LTD that has no audio in the PA mode or the CB (transmit or recieve) mode i've changed mics and also changed the audio IC to no avail. where do i look now?

look into buying a new radio. If you had researched further you would have found out that unless you are on cb your radio will not operate . If you are on PA the you can only transmit through the PA system not the cb. If you changed the audio IC then you probably did a cold solder on it. You need an external speaker to operate the pa mode and an external speaker to operate the CB mode .If you decide to fix it more it will cost you more then buying a new radio.

My cobra 29 has a 75watt amp on the back how can i get more

If you're using the RFX-75 amp section. Then you'll need to make sure your transmiter section is tuned for full output. The last last unit I installed in a Cobra 29 LTD, the radio modulated right at 100 watts output.
Hope this helps,
J.R.

President HR-2510 will not transmit or recieve

Hi Darrel,

Since you didn't say if you have ever used this radio successfully before, I have to assume it is "new to you" and that you have never seen it work or used one like it before. Start with a few basic settings below:

Turn Squelch to minimum.
Set RF Gain (if present) to maximum
Set Mode to AM or FM
Set volume to 1/3 up
Connect to 50 ohm dummy load.

Turn power on. Hopefully you hear static. If not, try SSB or FM. Still nothing? Try connecting to an external speaker.

Chnage back to AM or FM mode. Key mic check & for transmit indicator. If none, change mic or manually short the PTT contacts in the mic or at the radio to see if it can be made to xmit.

If no xmit - insert SWR meter between xmitter and dummy load. Try to xmit on AM or FM again while watching SWR forward power, if none indicated, xmitter is probably defective.

Replacing parts in a xmitter is not recommended. You'll need an FCC license and a fair amount of expensive test equipment to test repairs, set power levels and deviation and perform an alignment to be sure you aren't causing interference on other frequencies and bands.

You'd be better off bringing it to a radio repair shop for repairs and an alignment.

Hi,

If by calibration, you are referring to the check if your antenna is tuned, below information may be of help.
S/RF/SWR/CAL SWITCH. When in the S/RF position, the meter swings
proportionally to the strength of the received signal. When transmitting,
the meter indicates relative RF output power.
When in the "CAL" position, the SWR meter can be calibrated by adjusting
the "SWR CAL" control to the "CAL" mark on the meter face.
When in the "SWR" position, the standing wave ratio is measured.

SWR METER. Measures standing wave ratio of the antenna system.
Used to properly adjust the length of the antenna and to monitor the
quality of the coaxial cable and all RF electrical connections. If there is any
degradation whatsoever in any of the foregoing, due to humidity, salt
spray, vibration or corrosion, the SWR meter reading will rise, thereby
indicating that a problem exists.
To calibrate, switch to the "CAL" position, transmit by pressing the mike
switch, and adjust the SWR control to the "CAL" mark on the meter; then
switch to "SWR" position for the SWR measurement.

If however you are referring to the internal calibration or tuning of the transmit and receive sections, you would need several instruments/equipment such as RF generator (0-30Mhz with 1Khx modulation), Spectrum Analyzer, Modulation Scope, Dummy Loaded Wattmeter, Frequency Meter and some others. These of course are not readily available to the average user.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

President uniden hr 2510 ham radio

I know these are old posted questions but here are some new answers..... Simplest first! Make sure the TX button is not engaged, if it is then the radio will not work correctly.
Second would be a bad final or driver, this is a tough fix as these parts are tough to find, the parts are no longer made. A fix has been devised using MOSFETs but I have little details on this.
Third but not last is to do with age and environment, a glue was used to stabilize parts to the boards, wire and coils typically. This "glue" will break down over time and exposure to moisture and become conductive, shorting out parts and also corrosive, making copper wire and traces come apart.
Lastly, incorrect bracket knobs with screw threads too long can actually "crush" the PC board and break the PC copper traces.
Dropping the radio is not good, cracked boards and broken wires in hidden places.
Repairs can be made on all these but you need a tech that has experience to find these.....
