Question about LG LRE30451ST Electric Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Relatively new Frigidaire electric stovetop has a short circuit problem between the electric burners and the rest of the rangetop. The amount of current seems small -- just a good tingle (and I have had a couple of experfiences with regular 115 volt). There seems to be no short between the rangetop sheet metal and the rest of the surfaces around it. I reseated all the burners, but that didn't help. Any thoughts? john slimick slimick@pitt.edu

I'm sorry, but I should have mentioned that
the burners work fine when turned on,
but if I have a stainless steel pot on the burner
while the burner is on, and I grasp the lid,
I get this little shock (as I mentioned above).
But then I get the little shock via the pot lid
when the burner is turned off.

Here's what I'm thinking, usually the only time all the burners will not get hot is because you have lost one line of the power to your stove...if you have fuses one fuse is bad or plugin is bad or cord has one line burnt off where it connects to back of stove...if you have breaker one line or side of breaker might not be working or any of the problems above might be wrong....will your oven heat up...if yes then the power wire to burners is bad...if no then bad fuse or breaker or bad cord or bad plugin.

If you find no problem after checking the fuses, thermal resistor and/or capacitors, I would suggest to contact the manufacturer for second opinion.

Hope this helps and have a great day!

    John,

I see what you mean, the little shock that you are referring to is called 'Static Electricity'. This static electricity does not really came from the lid of the stainless pot. This static electricity is produced by FRICTION.

FRICTION - can be produced by rubbing two objects like human skin and a wood; wood to wood; human skin to vinyl or tiles. While you are walking on the floor, your body is creating a friction. And this friction is becoming a static electricity and once you suddenly stop walking and immediately touch a metal object, it will give a little shock just like you get electrocuted by a small amount of electricity.

To avoid this static electricity, here's what you need to do:

Before you touch metal anything that's on your burner, you have to stop for couple of seconds (5 to 10 seconds) and then touch the wall first or any concrete object. Then, you may now touch the stainless pot. That would avoid the little shock because the static electricity would be discharged by touching the wall.

    Have a great day!

I have a Kenmore 790.96224 electric range and the burners and oven do not work, but the clock is working. how do i fix?

Try replacing ONE stovetop burner and see if the new one works. If it does, replace more stovetop burners. If the new ones all work, replace the oven burners.

If that first replacement stovetop burner STILL doesn't work, don't replace any more. Instead, check (or have checked) the circuit breaker for the range. It may get power from a second source to power the clock.

Frigidaire Gallery Range (New). When plugged in, get a PF20 (power failure). Clock works fine. Both ovens work fine. Stovetop does not work. No heat in burners. No display over burner.

Hi,

When it doesn't heat up,
We have a Frigidaire Range model PLEF398CCC and, as many others here have mentioned, we saw the puff of smoke and the oven nor the front left burner works. The repairman has to replace a EOC on the back of the control panel and another one in the back on the bottom. The total cost for parts alone is $438 then add in the service call cost. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME we've had an EOC go bad for big bucks. The unit is about 5 years old. We're thinking of filling the landfill with it.

Use this for troublshooting:

another testimony to help,

Had the same problem. This solved it for me:

Take care.

I need to replace the glass cooktop on my Maytag electric stove

  1. Open oven door and remove two screws that secure top.
  2. Lift up front and slide forward about 8 inches so that you can disconnect two wire couplings.
  3. Place on table upside down(I put newspaper down to catch the broken shards of glass) and remove burner unit (1piece, 4 screws).
  4. Place old burners on new stovetop in the same position as original.
  5. Remove 4 white plastic shims (round) from old stovetop and put on new stovetop.
  6. Tighten all screws and then sit it back on stove (two front tabs fit into slots) and then insert screws into holes and tighten.
  7. Took about 20 minutes, including vacuuming broken glass from inside burners and cleaning grease form crevices between burners and old stovetop.
  8. Wrap old stovetop in the newspapers that are underneath it and place it all in a plastic garbage bag to avoid any broken glass from falling out.

LG Electric Range Oven Keeps Shutting Off

When you say "Just shut off" do you mean the circuit breakers would trip, or fuses would blow? If so, I would have an electrician check that the circuit is properly fused/breakered and wire sized for the amount of power required by the oven. If the installation directions say it needs a 50 amp service, it better be a 50 amp service.
If shutting off is just something within the oven, then get LG back out again, and let us know of what they say is wrong.

Ignitor won't shut off

The Viking manual says that an ignitor that continues to try to light even after the burner has been lit indicates improper grounding, and that an electrician should be consulted.

Perhaps you could try to replace the ignitor, and see if that fixes the problem?

I have a similar age, 6-burner 36" rangetop.
