My DVD player is portable and does not recognize the DVD. I have taken a Q-tip and lens cleaner, let it dry and it still does not work.

Why does my philips portable dvd player not work

It is attempting to read the disc. Try another KNOWN GOOD disc. If you get the same error, try cleaning the lens using a lens cleaner disc or a dry q-tip. If no go, sorry, she's a gonner :(

Problems reading dvds

Have you tried cleaning the lens of the portable player? You can purchase a DVD cleaning disc, this disc has microfiber brushes which clean the laser len assembly of the player as the disc spins.

Hope this helps

My handheld dvd player isn't reading the disc-they just spin really fast

Spray an small drop of safe window cleaner onto a Q-tip. Clean the laser lens carefully and then use the other end of the Q-tip to dry it. Use compressed air on and around the laser lens (do not blow on it). Clean your DVD disc and try again. If it fails again, try using a CD, if it will play a CD and not a DVD your optical pickup assembly is defective. If the CD wont play at all, your optical sled or spindle motor and/or drive is defective.

Most cases if cleaning doesn't fix it, it's cheaper to replace the entire DVD player. All portable DVD players are junk, regardless of brand.

WHY CAN'T MY PLAYER READ CDs ANYMORE?

Solved the problem by cleaning lens with plain water on a cue tip. Wasn't sure if a special solution was needed, but water did the trick.

Will not read dvds

clean the lens with a dvd/cd lens cleaner (walmart, radio shack, etc.). or if you're feeling adventurous, remove the top, remove the dvd shuttle cover, and clean the lens with a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. wip it off gently ad blow it dry with your mouth (as opposed to a hair dryer). the alcohol will evaporate. put it together and try it out. if it still doesn't read, you may need to replace the optical pickup (lens and motor).

Dvd won't play

lens could be the last option to check, most common problem with portables is, the drive motor, try to change it then play it, still problem continues, then change the lens, it should solve your problem

It Loads but doesnt spin and said "no disc."

Try cleaning the lens with a DVD Disc Cleaner or Methylated Spirit and a Q-tip, rub the lens slowly in a clockwise motion, leave to dry and put in a DVD, if it doesnt work try a CD but make sure they dont have any scratches or dust on them, if a CD works ( or not ) then your lens is knackered.

PORTABLE DVD PLAYER NOT SPINNING DISCS AND SAYING NO DISC

When it is region lock it will say it on the display, if the player is not reading any disk, it is more likely a lens problem, see below:

Try first using a lens cleaner disk, like the ones here.

If that does not work, the unit must be disassembled, and lense cleaned with q tips and isopropyl alcohol or cleaning solution. See below:

No disc

Hi TBS1,

You can open the lid and take a Q-tip lightly dampened with Glass Cleaner and swab the lens. Use the dry end of the Q-tip to dry the lens. If that does not work, you might try getting a can of Air from Radio Shack or someplace, as long as it is Dry Air, and carefull blow out the Laser. Write another comment in this thread if this does not help, and I will try to help you more. Good luck.
