Pentair Mininmax NT natural gas pool heater. Unit has power, water pressure and gas. Display shows correct water temp and the desired temperature. Unit does not switch on either manually or in automatic. what do I check next? Thanks

  • wadesmail Jul 01, 2009

    Hi

Thanks for the taking the time to reply

Nothing is happening when I try to turn the heater on. The displayed temp will show the current temp of the pool water (76 degrees) and when I manually raise the temp, the value is displayed on the panel but does not turn on the heater.

I have checked the led inside and the light is not coming on.
I do have the manual- thanks for posting the link.
No error codes are displayed on the panel. the unit "appears" normal.

I'm wondering if the thermostat is causing the problem. Is there a way to test the thermostat?

    any ideas?

    Thanks

    Doug

The Dianostic Lights when trying to start the heater is where to go next. When you tried to start the heater manually, did you have your automation system turned off so you can start it manually? If you did, when you tried to start the heater, wht happened? Did you receive any error codes? Were any of the System Indicator lights on? If you open the right hand side door, there will be a part with FENWAL on the sticker-near the top of the heater. Next to the word FENWAL, you should see a small arrow pointing up, there is a Red Diagnostic light above the arrow, is it flashing, and if so, how many times?

If you do not have an Owner's Manual for the heater, follow the link below and it will take you to one online. There are some trouble shooting ideas there also.

check the roll out switch! or make sure your filters are clean if not those could be a flow switch!

When turning on power display reads 128 then error code r 13, after this it say's spa on but the temp reads 126 and the water temp is only about 68 so the heater never comes on.

This is not an error code. 128 r13 is the normal programming or software version for your model. you need to press the spa on button again, make sure the temp set point is higher then the actual water temperature

I have a Master Temp 250 pool heater that shows an AGS error on the back of the board. The heater runs for about 20 seconds then shuts off, any ideas?

AGS = Auto Gas Shutoff...
What is happening is the heater is monitoring (or sorta, by reasons difficult to explain here) Water Flow and Water Temperature. In this case, the AGS is triggered by a low water flow, or high Incoming Water Temp.
High internal water temp = triggered AGS.
If you have and can confirm, PROPER water flow, water temp coming into heater is Lower than 104°, then it is possible you have a faulty AGS.
But in most cases, it's only doing its job. Locate the reason for the fault, or why the AGS Switch turned the heater off.

Pool heater won't heat water

How big a pool? You normally will not notice a temperature rise immediately. On average, swimming pools will see a one degree rise in temperature every 45 - 90 minutes.

Pentair matertemp 400,000 BTU heater cycles on & off

My pentair matertemp 400,000 BTU natural gas heater cycles on and off before reaching desired temperature. I completely cleaned the DE filter and flow should not be an issue. When running the spa the pressure is 25. When running the cleaning system (polaris pop ups) the pressure is 30. Burner fires for 80 seconds then shuts off, reignites after 53 ceconds.Any tips on what might be the issue with the heater
