Why is my dyson making a loud noise and not picking up? I have had the machine for over 10 years.

When machine is on it makes a very loud noise from the motor. The machine tends not to pick up and tnes spits out particles of dust & dirt out. Then machine is over 10 years old but this is the first time it has done this.

SOURCE: The rollers at the bottom of the sweeper have things stuck around them

You need to start with a pair of scissors and patience. Sit on the floor with the vacuum roller visible and accessible. Snip a string and pull it off. If the roller stops, cut string at that point. Try again. this is time consuming, but necessary. We borrowed a vacuum from a family that had four girls with long blond hair. We had to de-hair the roller before it would work sufficiently on our carpet. Once the hair was off, it worked GREAT! It was so wonderful that we went out and bought a Dyson of our own; now we don't have to remove long blonde hair from the roller to get it to work.

Hi there SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here. There are a couple of likely causes first check your washable filter once you remove the inner foam part and hold the white (well it would have been originally) part to the light you should be able to see light through the filter. If not you will need to get a new filter - Buy Here.
If your filter is okay check to see if your brushes are spinning. The brush roller bearings may have siezed making the brush essentially useless. Easy to replace just contact me with your model and I can help you get a new one! Happy Vacuuming

My dyson dc23 has recently started making a loud squealing noise. I have had it for about 3 years now with no problems. but it is so loud I do not even want to use it. I have checked it all over, no c

hi sophie, it's jack at dyson.

if your dc23 is making an unusual noise in use, this could be caused by something simple such as a part or seal being slightly out of position. the rotating brush bar in the turbine head floor tool is driven by the machine's own airflow, so if the brush bar won't rotate as fast as normal it sounds like something is also affecting performance.

this should be easy to resolve, and we may even be able to sort things out over the phone by talking you through some simple troubleshooting checks.

when you have your dc23 easily to hand, please give our experts a call directly on 0800 298 0298 (uk), 1-866-693-9766 (us), 1-877-397-6622 (ca) or 1800 239 766 (au).

we'll look forward to speaking with you.

Why, after running so great, and is still picking up and has good suction; does my dc33 have a loud whine when running?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC33 is working effectively but making an unusual noise, it could just mean a part or seal is slightly out of place. We'd be happy to help diagnose and resolve the issue - you'd just need to give our experts a call at the Dyson customer Helpline. If a repair or replacement part is needed, we can also confirm if your machine is within the Dyson guarantee period.

You can reach us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC33. The brush control is designed to make a ratcheting sound to warn you if something is obstructing the brushbar. If you've checked the cleaner head and brushbar already, I'd encourage you to get in touch with us directly as we'd appreciate the opportunity to provide further assistance.

You can call us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US) - please have the machine to hand when you call so we can run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you.

We'll look forward to hearing from you.

My Dyson Absolute has started making a loud noise and the has gotten progressively more difficult to push. I'm guessing the self-propel has stopped working. Is there a quick fix?

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Try making sure the brush bar is turning when in the vacuuming position. It is possible that the brush bar is obstructed which can cause your machine to make this noise.

Check out our online help at www.dyson.co.uk/support.

I would try changing the belt. Even though the belt may look fine it can be stretched or worn and that can cause loud noises. You can get dyson belts here:

Sounds like something is caught in the fans.  If they are found to be damaged, replace them.
