It's probably a broken switch inside the camera memory card readed. The memory card readers in cameras have a small switch that detects if the SD card LOCK switch is on. This is a hardware problem, you should give it for a repair - it's not a hard repair - I usually cut off the switch and put a wire so the camera allways thinks that the card is not locked.

Less than a minute? There is an obvious short that is draining the battery. Check the contacts in the camera to be sure there is no bridging contact between them causing the short circuit. Otherwise, e-mail a service tech at the Polaroid website with the problem.
