Fan is pretty simple, plug, cord, switch or motor. You can check the 1st 3 with an ohm meter. Just check for continuity, seeing if the different parts are good. If all are good, need new motor, or replace fan.

BATTERY IS COMPLETELY DEAD-COOLING FAN STILL RUNNING

Possibley a short in the wiring to the fan, i would check the underhood fuse box for a relay or fuse to remove so as to save the charge of the battery until you can isolate the issue. Water intrusion in the front frame area is typical.

We have a Sony VAIO, VGC-LV290J. When plugged into an outlet, the machine's fan just revs. The "VAIO" splash screen does not appear and the screen remains blank. The Bluetooth keyboard does...

It seems that the 'POST' (Power On Self Test) is not starting, and thus is not displaying the "splash" screen. The fans will run at 100% until the POST completes.
But, if the POST does not complete, the fans will "roar".

Check for a defective CPU, or defective RAM, or a defective motherboard.

It probably is *NOT* the CMOS battery -- if that battery is dead, then the "default" settings should allow the computer to start (with the wrong date/time).

Lost power. Fan will not turn on.

Sounds like the fan controller may have fried. You may want to get online and contact the manufacturer.

Turn key to start and nothing

Not if you left your headlights on all night and completely drained the battery. if it is dead, try to jump it, if you get some sort of power with the jumpers attached, go buy a new battery.

No power getting to my Lakewood fan...

Maybe you tripped over it so hard you de soldered the wires form the inside. Have you openned it? Try it out if you didn't. Check the power cord and follow it all the way into the motor (with the motor openned). Check if one or both cables on the inside are desoldered.
