Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

My gas range burners turn on just fine, but they won't continue to burn. They slowly reduce in size and go out (like the gas isn't coming out enough). But wait a few minutes and they will restart and do the same thing.

Tappan 32-1272-10/07056-8509-4080 gas range/oven pilot light works, main oven burner won't come on

You will need to look and see if the igniter is glowing a bright red. If it is weak, the oven will not light. Here is the igniter if you need to order it.

Also check and make sure your getting 3.2-3.6 volts AC to the valve.

Oven problem, it tries to ignite, but won't

It sounds like the igniter isn't lighting the flame, or the flame isn't sensing once lit. Check the burner to see if anything has fallen onto the burner or electrodes to prevent it from working. Also check the holes on the burner to see if they are blocked. If it is all clear it may be a control box issue.

I have an endless summer 92000 table top propane heater. Lights fine, but the flame does not burn at the edge of the burner. Instead, it only burns in the very center of the burner... much like a Bunsen...

Actually, it's a gas pressure issue. But, it's fairly easy to solve. First, you need to be sure that your LP Tank has a sufficient amount of gas. If it does, turn the propane tank valve OFF. Disconnect the hose from the tank and wait 5 minutes. Then reconnect the hose to the tank and turn the valve ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow). Once the valve is fully open, light the burner as you normally do and turn the burner flames to HIGH. Has the burner flame returned to normal? If so, you solved the problem. Just remember to always turn the tank valve ON very, very slowly.

If it didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the heater's hose/regulator assembly. Generally, i's the same type that a gas grill uses. So, it won't be hard to find one.

Hope this helped to troubleshoot and solve your problem. Please let me know.

I have a Frigidaire Stove, Model # FGF316ASA. It was changed from propane to natural gas. The oven works well. The burners, however, will only burn a low flame. Is there a solution for this?

When converting an appliance from propane gas to natural sometimes a technician will drill the orifice to a larger size rather than replace the orifices. Either way is fine, but sometimes the orifices don't get drilled to the correct size. The regulator must be on the propane setting if it is a convertible regulator. If your oven is working fine.... the top burner orifices probably need to be checked that they are the correct size. A simple fix.

The spark won't stop on a burner; it turns on just fine, but when off, it continues to click. That is, it is the spark that causes the gas to ignite. But the "sparker" keeps on sparking, over and over and...

Most of these have a switch behind each knob that triggers the spark.

OFTEN during cleaning, mositure gets into the switch causing the problem.

If you suspect this, try using a hair drier to dry out behind the knob if you can;t remove and investigate if this could be the cause.

When I turn on a burner, all the other burners click like they are trying to turn on as well. The clicking is continuous and really annoying! Thanks for your help! Tammie

Anytime you turn on a gas range all burners click for safety reasons. If a knob has been turned by mistake the gas lights to prevent gas from escaping into the room. If you turn the control knob past the LITE position after the burner lights you should be OK and stop the clicking. If the clicking continues regardless you have a defective ignitor switch that must be replaced.

Viking gas range makes a skskkkksssss noise when using the oven intermittenly

It sounds as though air/gas mixture needs to be adjusted.

Close the port on the burner so it has about 1/4" open.

If this doesn't work then the orifice may be a size or 2 too big and needs to be reduced

First of all- when you turn any ONE of the burner knobs to "ignite" all FOUR burners will spark/click. This is normal. If you're getting a spark from the ignitors when all knobs are set to "off" then you most likely either got some moisture into one or more of the switches below the knobs (sometimes they will dry out and be fine after a while, but I have seen them burn-up/melt/arc too) OR one or more of the switches is stuck/shorted. Good luck and hope this helps.
Unplug the range before working on it and don't attempt anything you're unfamiliar or uncomfortable with.

Burners unreliable when oven is on

Sounds like the pressure loss in the gas supply pipe to the range when the oven is burning doesn't leave you enough pressure to light the hob burners (the amount of air the burners entrain depends on the gas feed pressure. If this is wrong, you don't get an ideal mixture). Could be due to undersizing of the gas pipe, some sort of obstruction to the pipe or crushing of a hose - and/or a reduced supply pressure from the utility company. If the problem has been there since installation, it's probably worth checking whether the piping to the range has been sized correctly (especially if you've upgraded from something smaller), and that any quick release couplings are properly mated. If the range started off working properly, first check whether any other appliances are behaving oddly, whether there's anything looks odd about the reducing valve on your gas meter, and whether any of your neighbours are having problems. All of these would tend to point to a pressure problem at the supply end. After that, trace as much of the pipework from meter to range as you can, and look for anything out of the ordinary. A.
