Looking for direction on diagnosing why my 1997 Chevy Cheyenne C2500 7.4L engine 8 lug wheels does not start. It is a no crank, no start situation.

time to stop messing with auto zone as the testing is not showing the fault
The battery could be again faulty as there is no guarantee of battery life so have it tested again with a load tester
Take the car to an auto electrician for a full charging circuit test which includes the alternator , voltage regulator and rectifier and wiring
what you are doing is spot testing and getting frustrated
the problem could be a faulty starter relay or ignition switch

I have a 2005 nissan altima 2.5 that won't turn over I have to wait 20 minutes then turn the key and it will start

First, check the battery voltage while attempting a hot start. If it does not drop very much, suspect a bad connection in the starter circuit. Inspect the battery connections to make sure they are not loose or corroded. Next, check the engine ground connection and the connection to the battery cable at the starter solenoid. If those look good, you may have a failing starter solenoid or wornout starter motor brushes (you get contact when the parts are cold, but lose the connection when they're hot due thermal expansion).

If the battery voltage drops considerably on a start attempt, take the battery to a car parts store and have it tested. If it's good, the starter most likely needs repair or replacement.

I have a crown vic 1998 my car was driving fine i was going to go to the store my car didnt turn on i open my hood i try to turn it on all i hear was i think the starter but the crazy thing is the band...

So you think you could hear the starter spin but the "band" did not turn? I suppose you mean the serpentine belt did not turn. It is quite possible for the starter to spin but the bendix to fail to engage the flywheel. This can be caused by low battery charge, bad battery connections, or more commonly, a bad starter.

Battery spark at terminals

ok, first check you battery is actually maintain a good charge while your cranking the engine. If voltage drops below 10v your battery (Although appears fine while sitting) May not be any good when current is being drawn from it.

Its quite normal to see a small spark when connecting up a battery with voltage in it. If there were a short at the battery terminals you'd be blowing 30amp main fuse all day long.

Next if you replaced starter motor was it a new one?? If not then you may want to check the brushes inside are not worn away. Before doing that though try running a direct 12v straight into the starter motor to see if it cranks bike correctly.

Hi, I have a 2004 Vulcan Nomad 1500 L5 FI. I'm having issues starting the bike after I've been out riding for a while. It always took 2 or 3 revolutions (?) to start, but last season it sometimes took 4...

I would check the connection between the battery and the starter motor although its quite feasable that your starter is worn and is loading up, which makes it slow to turn and require more power from the battery.
Maybe you can remove the starter motor for testing?

My 2004 330ci won't start, does not turn over. The battery is fine, all electrical in the car work fine, plus trying to jump car does not work & a green light is showing on the battery in the truck....

If the battery is fine, why jump it? Faulty thinking to state or think: all electrical in the car work fine. If it did the starter motor would be turning the engine over. The starter motor work on electrical...not all is fine.

check: 1) 60a starter fuse/relay. 2) voltage to starter when turning key to activate starter motor, this will rule out ignition switch or relay. 3) apply direct voltage to starter motor to detect bad starter motor.

Starter motor just clicks, not cranking : knowledge question

you mention it almost started which suggest the motor turned over... if it did that it's not seized. i would hook the jumpers on for about 15 minutes before you even attempt to start the car. if the starter still won't work... hit it with a hammer as you attempt to start it... if it starts up you likely need a new starter.

Intermittant starting problems

Low voltage to solenoid. Try cleaning your bat cables ends inside where they attach to battery , if you're sure battery is good. terms should be shiny where they touch battery terms.
