Question about First Alert SA302 Dual System Smoke Detector

1 Answer

We have smoke detectors that are hooked up to electricity and battery back up. We have recently replaced the batteries and 2 out of 5 keep chirping. What could be the problem? They don't have a silent button that I can see.

My alarm is chirping. I have turned the master electrical switch off, put new batteries in, twice, and disconnected the wires to the SOB, and it still chirps. Help, please.

Check that power is actually coming into the wires with a meter. Clean out any dust. Also did you test the detector after replacing the battery? The chirping also can mean that the detector needs to be replaced.

Chirps come from ceiling not unit

Only the smoke detector will chirp. When they begin chirping it means the battery is very low and needs to be replaced. Replace it and you will find the chirping will stop as it will when the battery is totally dead.

MY ALARM KEEPS CHIRPING. Thought I should change the battery but discovered it's not battery operated!

A chirping smoke detector indicates low battery! Change battery or replace smoke detector!

My Kidde Model 1285 keeps chirping even after I changed the batteries, any ideas why?

Be sure you are using a well known brand battery. The store brands, in my my opinion generally are not quite up to par. Try this and see if the chirp will stop. Thanks for asking me.

Smoke detector removed from ceiling. Only wires visible, but I still hear chirping.

Look at the detector you removed, and all others that may still be wired in.
They all have battery backup. Although the detectors are hardwired, the chirping is coming from one of the detectors to let you know to change the battery.

I have replaced the batteries to the smoke detectors and they keep beeping. What is the problem?

It is possible that the battery is not contacting the metal clips inside. See if the can be adjusted out. More likely the detector is not recognizing the voltage of the new battery. You can try removing the detector from the ac power install the battery and reconnecting it to the ac. It should correct the issue.

Smoke detector keeps chirping after battery is changed, chirps every 30 seconds. chirps come from the ceiling not the device

The chirp means the battery you chose wasn't good enough... it has to be the newest '''alkaline''' you can get hold of. If it isn't alkaline that's why you are having trouble. Upon replacement press the button to do a hard reset.

My alarm and smoke detector keeps beeping a single beep every few minutes

Ours keeps chirping even after we replaced the battery. I'm not sure how to fix it.

We are going to try and clean it but if it keeps doing it after that then I guess it means it needs to be replaced, right?
