I dont think it should get that hot. Dremel has a program for the 225 Flex Shaft and for 17.90 they will exchange it for you. Send it to DREMEL 4631 E. Sunny Dunes Rd. Palm Springs, CA 92264. Their phone number is 1-800-275-2052. Hope this helps. Dave

You can go to Dremel.com and find assistance or call their toll free number at 1-800-437-3635 and speak with their tech assistance. Let me know if you still need more help. Also I tried using the model number provided and it came up empty that is why I am directing you to this site yourself.

Here's the email from I got from Dremel (in my case the flex coupling broke):
Inside the tool is a flex coupling and spline driver.

The flex coupling is # 2615294309 and the price is $ 1.25.
This is the hollow plastic sleeve about 1" long with grooves on the
inside, that goes between the motor shaft and the output shaft.

The spline driver is # 2615294308 at $ 1.00.
Spline driver sits on the direct end of the motor shaft. The flex
coupling sits over the spline driver. Spline driver is about 1/4",
hard plastic with grooves on the outside.

Total shipping for orders under $ 5.00 is $ 2.50. Orders over $
5.00 is $ 4.00.

How do you assemble a dremel flex shaft 225-01

You screw off the collar on the tool, remove the chuck and inner part. The chuck is replaced with a special chuck (no inner piece). The special chuck has a square opening in it's nose that accepts the square end of the flex shaft inner cable. Is is actually a speedometer drive cable, from yesteryear.
Then you pull the inner cable out slightly, if it will, and put the inner cable into the square opening of the special chuck on your dremel motor. once engauged, you carefully screw the outer shaft housing on to the end of your dremel motor.
What you want to avoid is damaging this area during flex shaft assembly. I have had success with turning the output side of the flex shaft, while tightening the outer flex shaft onto the dremel motor. Stop tightening if it starts binding...
Rotation seems to help with alignment of all parts.

The shaft might seem to be in but they need a good hit with a drift to force the clip into its position then you can't move it in and out by hand or put the nut on the outer shaft and give it a wack with a hammer

I have to replace the piston rod-to-motor shaft bearing on my mod. #919.165221 compressor and I don't know how to remove the rod and bearing from the shaft.

Your unit was most likely made by Porter Cable and parts may be matched at your nearest Dewalt parts center. The best way to remove the bearing is to use a press, however the fast/dirty method is to use a Dremel with a thin cutting wheel to remove the bearing from the shaft. Remove the head of compressor being carefull not to tear gaskets. Loosen screw holding rod to bearing and remove rod (note position). Make two cuts on outer bearing shell and remove shell. Make one cut on inner race, then expand slightly with blade of screwdriver and remove. Use generic bearing 6203 available at auto parts. Clean shaft with fine sandpaper and install bearing to noted position. Probably a good time to replace cylinder and ring. Usually part Dewalt / Porter cable part #k-650 or use Sears part. After assembly turn several times by hand checking for alignent and free movement. Be carefull with the fan, easy to break. You probably should order a spare blade. Good luck with your repair and post again if you have questions.

The "nub" on the shaft lock assembly (internal) has worn down and the assembly needs to be replaced.

If you feel competent to open your Dremel yourself (and it's not on warranty) then order the shaft lock assembly from Dremel (early 2011 price: $1.25, not sure how much postage & handling might be). After opening the tool you will find a metal ring and a small piece (the lock) which it holds in place around the shaft where the lock button is located. Remove the old pieces and replace with the new ones and reassemble the tool.

Otherwise you can send the tool to Dremel to be fixed.

Sounds like you'll need to either order a new flex shaft from Worksmith, or purchase a different rotary tool kit. Dremel makes the best, and Central Electric (Harbor Freight Tools) also makes a flex-shaft kit.
