Nikon Coolpix 5700 Digital Camera - SB flashing and cannot take picture

Hi I am trying to take a picture but the red SB comes up on the display - I am not the normal user of the camera (he is off sick) and cannot find the manual. Couldnt find reference in the online manual, can you assist me with why I cannot take a photo please? Is it a battery problem - I charged it earlier as well?
Thanks,
Desperate Dan!

No not as yet - but I did a search and found out that this is a common fault of the camera. (Probably repairs would be expensive and it would be cheaper just to buy a new camera!) Now the whole lcd screen has gone black as well so I think my camera is terminal. Good luck rlucy! Cheers, Desperate Dan!

Not to buy a Nikon Coolpix anymore.
This is a very bad camera. I had this same error last year. The camera was sent to Japan once, returned to me and worked for six months.
Now is the same problem: SB light in red doesn't let me take pictures in light conditions when flash is needed.
So, you'd better think in buying a camera, not Nikon, please.

My flash isn't working on my Coolpix 5700. I'm

Hi.

From what I have heard Nikon has recalled the Coolpix 5700 because of the SB error. It has something to do with a connector coming away from the printed circuit board. I recommend that you get in touch with Nikon and see if they will repair the flash for you. Click on the link below to contact them.

Flashing SB warning light when trying to take picture

Does the flash pop up? If not, try to pull it up manually. Look at your settings in the menu, maybe reset them.

Re: nikon 5700 faulty flash

It appears that you have a ccd problem.
That particular model had a ccd problem, whether or not the flash is part of it, I do not know.
Here is the link to FREE REPAIR if the problem is the ccd.

I have sent some Nikons in for repair, and they have been fixed free. The shipping will cost you to send in.

Re: nikon 5700 faulty flash

I've had this problem and Nikon repaired it twice for me at about Aus$200 each time.

Recently it happened again.

Quite by accident, I found that I could lift the black on-off main switch and that it comes off the camera body quite easily together with the chrome shutter button.

Inside was a little plastic tab with contact points.

Merely blowing off the dust inside and then replacing the shutter button and on-off black ring appear to have solved the problem for me.

However, my viewfinder and lcd were working normally and not black as  lsvettek said.

I did have a problem with the viewfinder and lcd on yet another occasion and this was a recognised fault which Nikon repaired free of charge.

The red dot beside SB means that the flash is not ready. If the flash does not pop-up, I would say something is jamming it -- and not allowing the flash to pop-up. If the flash does pop-up, but the red dot stays on, there is a problem with the flash. The simplest might be a battery that is almost dead. The flash has to "charge" before it will fire. I have to admit, you would notice this rather quickly as the camera would power down within a few shots -- even if the flash didn't fire.

Check the pop-up flash position and get back to me. I hope this helps! Please post rating, if it does.
