Emachines D620 laptop. I can´t open the rear cover to install RAM

I´m the owner of an emachines D620 then I want to install 1GB RAM memory but I can´t open the rear cover of this emachines D620 because it is like "very well glued". The screws have been removed but the rear cover can´t be removed. ¿Can you tell me how to quit this rear cover, please?

Emachines e370 Can you increase the RAM to 3 or 4 GB by replacing with 2GB DDR3 ram modules from 2 total (2/1GB modules without damaging laptop.

If you run a check with mr memory, that will tell you the maximum RAM useable. You may have to instal a 64bit version of your OS otherwise anymore RAM will be unused.

How open and change memory ?

Start by checking what EMachines sat is the maximum RAM and RAM Clockspeed the motherboard can support (as it's an XP machine, I suspect it may be 2Gb max). Then make sure you buy 1 stck of the correct RAM (there seems to only be 1 RAM slot).

Disconnect from mains power.

LCD Monitors, TVs and All-in-One PCs have a dangerous internal working environment, containing several Capacitors that store a gigh charge capable of seriously injuring or even killing an inexperienced repairer.

If, for economic or educational purposes, you are determined to do the repair this yourself, you need a large sheet of paper on which to sketch a screw location diagram of the rear of the LCD Panel.

The first step is to remove the rear cover pf the LCD Panel, often the stand will also have to be removed as well. This is almost always not straightforward. (see review on:

Use the diagram to intelligently map the locations of the different types an sizes of srew you come accross while opening the rear cover.

Be very careful to remove every retaining screw before trying to lift the cover off (there are often several hidden srews and it is easy to miss one and snap off part of the cover or the frame it connects to). Do not use force - if the cover will not lift off easily, look for more retaining screws.

Once the cover is off, you are looking for laptop type RAM Memory Modules, with parrallel side clips that, when pulled outwards with the fingernails of both thumbs allow each Memoey Module to spring up at an angle, enabling to slide it out of its socket.

To replace the memory slide each new module in the correct orientation (there is a notch that only permits the corect orientation) until it is fully docked in the socket. Then press down until the two side clips catch and lock into place.

Now place the cover open face up on a desk or table and carefully place the LCD panel onto the cover, before connecting, powering up and testing the computer with its new RAM, before reassembling it.

Hope this helps.

I recently purchased Two PNY 1Gb ram to upgrade from original 512mb. When I put both 1Gb ram in the slots, the computer will not boot up. When I take one out and put the original 512 back in with the other...

I don't know your specific model, but some of the Emachines had some memory directly on the motherboard. With the 1Gb and 512Mb sticks installed, boot the machine and report how much memory the system sees. Perhaps the onboard memory is causing you to exceed the 2Gb limit.

Please post the memory size you get here with the above sticks.

How do i fix frozen curser on e machine d620

Most likely, one of your memory modules (RAM) is bad or loose.

Disconnect all the cables. Remove the battery. Remove the memory cover. First, remove and reinsert (reseat) the memory modules. Reinsert the battery and connect the cables. Boot your laptop.

If still a problem, follow all the above steps, but remove one module at a time and boot to test each module.

Hope this helps.

Just installed 2 2GB cards (Corsair VS2GB800D2) to replace the 1 1GB card in my emachines EL1200 series. Computer will not boot. replaced the old card and it booted right up.

Will it boot with only ONE of the 2GB memory-sticks installed?
Will it boot with ONE of the 2GB memory-sticks AND one of the 1GB memory-sticks?

Look closely at the 1GB memory-sticks.
Does the label show 'DDR266' or 'DDR333' or 'DDR400' or 'PC2100' or 'PC2700' or 'PC3200' ?
Do the 2GB memory-sticks have _identical_ information?
It's definitely _not_ acceptable to have "slower" RAM (smaller numbers) in the new RAM,
but it _might_ be acceptable to have "faster" RAM (larger numbers).

How do I open my emachines ez1601-01 all in one pc

Go to the Crucial site. They make memory and their site will scan your PC, then tell you how much memory it will take.
From there, it will also give you an idea of how to open your PC to install the new or additional memory.

Good luck,

Dell latitude d620 wont turn on

Did you upgrade the RAM when you upgraded to Vista. The D620 does not have the resources to run vista as pre-configured and requires, at the least, a memory upgrade. 1gb or greater is recommended.

Please upgrade the ram, or try F8 during boot for Safe-Mode and see if your RAM is not the issue. To check the amount of RAM you have:

Press and Hold Windows Key + PauseBreak

If you still have 256mb or 512mb vista is likely to barely crawl.

Let us know what you find.

How do I tell me emachine T5212 to recognize newly installed ram?

The Ram specifications for your model are:
1024MB DDR2 (2 × 512MB), 533MHz (PC4200)
Expandable to 2GB

If you are using Microsoft Windows, the operating system will recognize the memory by itself, there is nothing you have to do. Go to your start menu, right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties". In the lower right corner of the "General" tab, you can read the amount of memory available to you.

If you want to know how to put RAM into your computer, have a look at this web page - it's a good video instruction. Make sure not to touch any of the electronic parts on the stick itself - try to hold it on the side.

If your computer does not recognize the newly installed RAM it can have different reasons:
  1. The RAM is bad. Nothing you can do but send it back and get it replaced.
  2. You got the wrong RAM. Look at Crucial's webpage (link) and compare the specs with what you've got. They are very reliable and the memory I bought from them always worked.
  3. It is possible that you have to install the RAM in pairs. (eMachine's web page (link) has no download for a manual and does not cover this topic.) It means, that either both memory slots have to be populated or even populated with the same kind of sticks (2 x 512MB, 2 x 1GB).
Solution: try to replace one of your old sticks with the new 1GB stick and see if that increases your memory. If that doesn't work, take both of the old sticks out and put the new 1GB stick in the slot closest to the CPU (look at the video: it's that unit with the fan on top). If that doesn't work either, try the other slot.
Last resort would be to contact eMachine. You can either use LiveChat or call them. The contact info is on their web page.

If all fails, come back here and leave a comment including what you did. I will check back and then we go from there.

Good luck!
