Recently broke the water level knob off...can I replace that? Also, machine won't spin or drain. Makes a noise...and kinda smells like burning?
No spin, try these:
Using a multi meter check for continuity the door switch, which when bad may not allow agitation or spin. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically.
Check the clutch, brake assembly and transmission, one way to check for slipping is to get under the machine after a spin cycle ( this is if u get a lil spin but not much leaving clothes still wet) mix in a spray bottle a lil water and some dish detergent, then spray it on the clutch assembly ( the metal round pc. Connected to the tranny) if it sizzles and steams up then u know its bad and slipping. Another way to check clutch if u get no spin at all? Is to take it out and use ur hand to try and turn the inner spring assembly pushing it around the inside? If its very easy, it BAD should be hard to push by hand.
Next check the motor coupler which engages the tub and tranny to the motor. ( if its bad u usually get no wash or spin or very little of either)
Next check for a loose, worn or broken belt if belt driven.
On some front load models u may need to check the STATOR assembly.
The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often misdiagnosed.

BooshieDaddy & ronnie2042 I would like to pass this along. I found a web sight for the testing and repair of the Drive motor switch (my centrifugal switch), it also has prices, parts diagrams, and prices for my LSQ8512KQ0, which is the Ultimate Care ll, same guts as yours, I believe. Since the coupling is alright, that probably means the gearbox didn't bind. The prices are ridiculous, I added up just the one page for the motor and gear box and it came to like $500.! You wouldn't want to build one at home! The switch is $55., the gear case $143. and the drive motor is $111.83. On some of the models you can't buy the switch separately, you have to get it with the motor. They have a place where you can enter your P/N and find out though. The other neat feature is you get step by step instructions for everything, removing case, water pump, ect...It's www.repairave.com/washerrepair_wpl_motorswitch.asp, hope this helps....

SOURCE: washer won't drain, makes loud noise
This problem, or some variation thereof evidently is very common with these Whirlpool Washers! I have same problem. So far, best I have found is at
http://applianceguru.com/forum2/5958.html#
diagnosis by someone who knows. What William Burk says there makes sense. However, to get to the drive block there's quite a bit of disassembly required. I am stopped because I cannot get the spanner nut off. Hope this gives you some help toward finding a more comprehensive answer

HI thanks for your question. the part that failed is called the motor coupling. it s located on the motor and the transmission. if you need help to replace come on back. but that's the part you need to change. thanks

If your basket appears to be off-center in the opening, and there is evidence of the basket rubbing the front of the plastic tub, then you should check out my post at:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t1254687-duet_washer_very_loud_when_spinning
If this is what happened to your washer, the 'burning smell' you refered to was the plastic tub getting hot from the rubbing of the basket (mine smelled the same way, I originally thought there was an electrical failure).
SOURCE: loud noise, then not so loud, but now electrical burning smell and little draining
the smell is your clutch and the lack of draining is a clogged washer drain protector. see these at www.repairclinic.com drain protector is part 541811 and clutch is 2670. go there enter model number and scroll down to the red 100 click it and look for these part numbers.
