Does the foot pedal go up and down or is it stuck in one position? The foot pedal is quite expensive so I would recommend trying to have it repaired if possible. Otherwise, check eBay or other 3rd party vendors for a replacement. You can find a dealer near you by using the link 'Locate a Dealer' at the Husqvarna Viking Website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us for them to determine if your foot pedal can be repaired.

Hold the foot in your left hand. Attempt to put the foot on, but when you begin to struggle bring the needle down through the foot using the hand wheel. Once the needle screw is lowered about 1/2 way, the ankle will easily fit onto the shank and you can put the screw in.
Bringing the needle down saves you from having to wrestle with the spring tension in the foot and take all the work out of it.
