    the whole system meaning the hard drive which supplies the monitor etc... . All other equipement is functioning properly . This occured after a power failure in the house . The PC was attached to a surge protector. Do you think it is the power supply?

    Thank You

    Hi, When you say hard drive shuts down, do you mean just the hard drive shuts down, or does your whole system completely turn off?

It is a little hard to tell, I dont think its a psu problem.
I have seen something similar when a cpu/motherboard went faulty. (Older machine could not get either cpu or motherboard to test)
Also worth checking your ram is seated correctly.

My hard drive clicks and the moniter turns off

Hi, you can isolate that problem to see what is the defective part;
1. Remove the hard disk connection from the board and its power then re-start the PC.
2. If the PC powers and initializes, then you can prove that the defective is the hard drive. If the same problem that it shuts down then. the next target is the power supply. If you change the power supply and it turns out success, then we have solved the problem, if not, next thing is,
3. Turn off PC, remove the battery/clear cmos, the memory and the processor for 20 minutes.
4, After 20 min re-install the battery, memory and processor. Without the hard drive when starting, lets see if it will boot without the O/S.

others, when you say the monitor turns off, does the CPU still working or not? Isolate also the monitor by powering it on and not attaching the communication cable to video port, lets see it the monitor itsel display by its internal video logo to be sure it is okay.

Unplug power cable from of the PC. Then hold power button in for 30 seconds, this will drain the capacitors, then plug back in the power cable see if this helps, if not could power supply, or video card.

Hp ze2000 shuts down

Without more information I cannot be sure, but I would say that it could possibly be set to use an external monitor. There is a FN key command to switch between your LCD Screen and an external screen. Try that. If you have an external monitor that you can plug into the VGA connection, that should tell you for sure. Good luck.

replace your power supply, you need to upgrade this to at least 500watts to avoid problem like this, there is no problem with your hard drive its your power supply
