Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Hello, I have a Kitchenaid Superba mod.

Hello, I have a Kitchenaid Superba mod. #KEYS850LQ1 electric dryer. It will not start, & will occasionally "click'' or ''tick'' like it will before starting the unit. I replaced the door switch for a similar issue about 3 months ago. Difference here is that it has turned on by itself after I left it (while still in the dry cycle and had depressed the start switch). Any ideas? Thanks,Todd

    Vic,
I checked continuity for what I believe your fuse (white 2 prong, looks like a diamond). It's ok, tested door switch,ok..I think the issue may either be the start switch (tested it, infinity to .003, the opposite pole either no change or fluctuating numbers). The timer was what I was begining to suspect. The machine will normally "click" or "hum" once you have set the desired time selection...it does not do that now. I do not know how to test this. I was getting ready to find a start switch

Hi Todd,
First UNPLUG the dryer! Remove the rear panel of the dryer and locate the fuse. It is white and ¼” wide and 3” long. It is located on the blower housing. Remove the wires and check to see if it has continuity. If it does not, you need to replace it.
Please let me know if this help or if I can assist you further.

Vic

Thanks
Vic

Our Kitchenaid dryer won't heat up - it's still under warranty, but we have a 2 month old and need it working asap - it runs and stops fine. For the past few months it has been turning itself on and off...

Hello, Before you proceed you should understand any service you perform on your dryer could potentially void any warranty, It is your discretion. I wouldn't be too concerned about the unit cycling on & off at the end of a cycle, many dryer's have an automatic "wrinkle guard" feature and that is how they function and some cycle on & off for up to an hour after or until the door is opened. I also am not clear if it is gas or electric soooo...if it's electric, disconnect the vent from the dryer and run a "timed" dry cycle not "auto-dry" without a load and see how it perform's. If it performs ok then you have your problem...poor or blocked venting. On the other hand if it is gas, you should not run the unit without it exhausting outside and consiquently you'll have to wait for a authorized pro. The other thing you want to investigate is how well the washer is spinning the clothes, are they fairly well rinsed before entering the dryer ? Just something to consider, obviously soaking wet is not good for drying in the dryer. Let me know if any of this help's and I'll watch for your response. Good luck and thanks for coming to fixya today. Please rate the info provided positively if helpful and reply to me if not helpful. Thanks again, macmarkus :)
