Hi,

Update: After speaking to GE, they said that's just how it is, there is no way to silence or quiet it.
If its under warranty you might want to replace it with another model.

Its very rare that any unusual sounds coming from inside the oven. While these appliances are not exactly quiet, grinding, squealing, scraping, or other noises - especially if they were not there when the oven was new - may indicate the need for some more extensive maintenance like belt replacement or motor lubrication. Attending to these minor problems now may prevent major repairs in the future.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.

Change the fan tone of the nnct585s microwave oven by Panasonic so that it makes the same fan tone as the nne273s because I used to the fan tone of the nne273s

Microwavemanual.com probably has a manual for this oven.

In general, though, tones on most microwaves seem to be set, except for loudness on some.

When turning Fan on (any speed), top vent grille blowing lots of air, but not pulling air underneath

some microwaves vent to the exterior. check outside for a vent. If it is a recirculating model, perhaps the filters are plugged, the vent pathway is blocked (packaging material) or a loose panel at the back so that the exhaust fan air is leaking out somewhere else. I don't know what else it could be unless the fan is loose on the motor shaft and the fan motor is running but the fan blades are not moving air.

The fans on this microwave will automatically turn on when I have more than one burner on the gas range going. The fan is horrendously loud and will not allow me to shut off for 2-3 minutes regardless if I...

That's typically normal operation. The microwave has a thermostat which turns on the hood vent exhaust fan at a certain temperature to protect the controller.

Your owner's manual will cover vent fan operation.

If for some reason you don't have yours, you can download Whirlpool owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

I always recommend that you use the vent fan whenever you're cooking on the stove top to keep heat, steam, and grease out of the controls and door panels.

If - above and beyond this - the fan has a problem, that could make it excessively loud. Some are just loud though, it's hard to judge without actually hearing it.

You can contact Whirlpool customer service with your model number via that link above and ask them about the loudness. They may be able to tell by listening over the phone if it's abnormally loud.

Microwave vent turned on by itself and won't turn off

The HMV9305 has an automatic vent turn-on feature. It senses heat, possibly from the oven or range beneath, and turns on the exhaust fan until temps return to normal. Sometimes this may take 4-5 minutes, which can seem like an eternity of listening to the blower run, but it is a safety feature designed to prevent damage to the microwave from excessive heat generated by the cooktop or oven beneath it.

Vent fan high comes on automatically with cooking

Right, that would be MCO10UW and the owner's manual is here.

The owner's manual does say this, of course,

"To prevent overheating from taking place, the exhaust
fan is designed to automatically turn on at a low speed if
excessive temperatures occur. Should this happen, the
fan cannot be manually turned off, but it will
automatically turn off when the internal parts have
cooled. The fan may stay on for up to an hour after the
range and microwave oven controls have been turned
off."

That;'s standard on microwaves.

But these models do have a separate internal cooling fan (which should run any time you microwave) plus the hood vent exhaust fan, which should only run when you select it, or if there is an excessive stovetop or under-hood temperature.

So if it comes on whenever you microwave, that is incorrect.

When that happens, it's usually a defective vent thermal switch (a.k.a. hood TCO).

But since it's brand new, I would certainly contact Magic Chef about this. If it's in need of repair, they will fix it free, assuming the oven wasn't physically damaged.

Noise problem

Do you mean the hood / vent fan? If so, it may be failing, or there may be an obstruction in it.

Yours may have a fan-like stirrer located above the cover in the ceiling of the microwave. Is that what you mean?

Is it heating and working properly otherwise?

Please reply back so we can help further.

New microwave; loud fan when heating items

Since you say it's new, it should be under warranty. I would call GE (see your owner's manual) to get a local authorized service center. Then while you're on the phone with the service center, you can start it up and hold the phone close to it to demonstrate to the technician how loud it is. They should be able to tell you if it will be covered under warranty so you get it fixed free.
